Chatham still supports a commercial fishing operation, but clearly has a softer side: readers ranked it at the top of the survey for its sense of romance. One swoon-worthy hotel is the luxurious clapboard Chatham Bars Inn, set on 25 acres with its own private beach, spa, and more than two-dozen shingled cottages. Among public shores, Chatham Lighthouse Beach is considered the most scenic. The good times here on Cape Cod don’t die down after Labor Day: thanks in part to its annual Pumpkin People display, Chatham also ranked near the top for being a cool Halloween destination.Recommended for:

My husband and I stayed in Chatham for 3 nights in October 2007. We stayed at the Carriage House Inn. The breakfast was wonderful and the owners were very helpful in suggesting sights and restaurants. I suggest staying in a back room since the Inn is located on a busy street. The town has quaint shops and plenty of restaurants. However, most restaurants don't take reservations, so it can be difficult to get a table at a reasonable hour. The location makes it easy to take day trips to other towns on the Cape. We went to Provincetown and climbed the Pilgrim Memorial Monument. Provincetown has lots of unique shopping as well.
