I ain't gonna lie. This place was a wee bit intimidating from the moment i walked in. I mean I'm no food or wine connoisseur and the waitstaff just seemed like they were. But that's all they were: knowledgeable about the menu, honest, and friendly....no hint of pretention whatsoever. In addition, they were very encouraging of any questions. In fact, I inquired about a dish of veal sweetbreads and the waiter was nice enough to admit that it was "for the adventurous". I didn't receive some sort of generalized answer like "it's good", and that kind of honesty is hard to find from a waiter. I love that this restaurant is in a dingy nook off of 6th street but you'd never know it from the inside. Fresh flowers on the table: plus. Maybe it's a girl thing. French waiters: plus. Again, girl thing. The food is quite scrumptious, although some dishes are a bit heavy for my taste. Their fixed price three-course option is pretty much the best idea ever. An appetizer, entree, and dessert for $25 is a steal at such a classy joint, in my opinion. I highly recommend the Trout in Rose sauce. Melts in yr mouth. Salmon Pate on crusty bread was unexpectedly delightful. Don't even get me started on the Chocolate Mousse. Much as you would expect, you're highly encouraged to eat and drink the day away without being bothered. It's nice to just sit and chat without worrying about the next place you're going right? And they understand that. However if you are in a hurry, make sure to let someone know you're ready for the check because they'd let you sit there forever just to keep from being impolite. Can't wait to go back.
