    Buddy Guy's Legends

This south loop joint is great place for blues. Normally, there is a cover to enter. You can pay at the door, but if a blues performer is popular enough then you are in better luck purchasing in advance through their site. Such is the case every January when Buddy Guy has his annual, month-long residency at his bar. Listening ...

    Heaven on Seven

Serving what is arguably the best authentic cajun food in Chicago, and probably the best anywhere outside of Louisiana, Heaven on Seven (there are a couple throughout the city), is simply fantastic. The home restaurant of celebrity chef Jimmy Bannos, virtually everything I've tried on HoS's menu is superb, from the po' boy sandwiches to the gumbo to the etouffee, ...

Cajun food in Chicago?!? You are crazy, you say. Guess again, ye of little faith. Ok so its not New Orleans, but for Cajun food outside of Louisiana, this is about as good as it gets. The décor is a tad frantic, but just go with it and order the Cajun Iced Tea (limit one) this drink will have you ...

    Big Jones

Yum. Southern brunch food. Fried plantains, corn cakes, omelettes, potatoes o'brian and even fried catfish. And, if you're gluten free they have several delicious options for you. The interior is very classic with a touch of modern and they also have a plethora of brunch cocktails. Bonus: It's across the street from the Swedish Bakery in Andersonville.

This is my favorite brunch spot in Chicago. A good mix of Southern-influenced options. The menu is massive so there is something for everyone. I could eat the corn cakes here all day. Expect to wait if you arrive after 10:30 or 11 on a weekend. Good news is that the tables turn pretty quickly. The coffee here is TERRIBLE ...

    TABLE fifty-two

    5
    1 review

Table fifty-two is a unique single family home buried on the north side of Chicago in the Gold Coast neighborhood. The restaurant has a southern soul-food style menu, with a loud atmosphere filling the small house from all the afterwork business dinners and dates. Sit upstairs for a more intimate setting and definitely order the MAC and CHEESE, it slays ...

    Machu Picchu Restaurant

This is one of my favorite Peruvian restaurants in the city. While there are a few others I would go to for certain things, Machu Picchu is where I'd choose to go if I have a large group of friends or family since it is a larger venue than most other Peruvian restaurants here. It is also BYO. It is ...

Austin neighborhood has few sit down restaurants. This is a political gathering place as well. Smothered pork chops are soooo good -- sorry vegetarians.

    Soul Vegetarian East

The cooks at his South Side gem tackle the difficult task of making hearty Southern cooking sans meat, and succeed to the point that diners oftentimes can’t believe that their dishes are vegetarian. The seitan BBQ twists here are a highlight, and boast a tough, jerky-like consistency that will perplex your mouth. Menu items such as jerkfu wraps, veggie gyros, ...

hair and wind and everything in face. outside of the pier. fantastic. This was a one of a kind experience that I thoroughly enjoyed and wish it was longer. Army & Lou's

The Pew that Martin Luther King sat in is in the foyer of this African American soul food restaurant. Not the healthiest as it's cooked "old school" Enjoy and then go for a long walk.
