In downtown Oakland there is a place called Fairyland. It is a very old and unique place. My mother would frequent it as a young child. I took my daughter there a number of times as well. It is the most unique theme park I know of.
You can find them all here… The Queen of Hearts, The Cheshire Cat, Old Mother Hubbard, The Old Lady who Lived in a Shoe, 3 Little Pigs, they all reside here. Almost every child who goes here loves this place as much as his or her grandparents did at their age. It is a unique and special special place.
If you read any of the classic fairy tales to your child(ren), then this is the perfect place to take them in order to make the stories pop and come alive! This is a perfect place to go for a half day or a lazy afternoon in the sun. Your children will be fully entertained and you will be able to sit back and enjoy their learning and enjoyment. This is a priceless gift for a parent IMHO.
PRO TIP: Bring a snack or lunch and drinks and save a few bucks
It also helps that it is a fairly inexpensive trip. It is just $8 per person, young or old, from 1 yr to 100 yrs. The Park is always open on the weekends but depending on the season the days change. During summer it is always open. In spring and fall it is open Wed-Sun. In the winter is it open on Fri-Sun.
If I still lived in Emeryville, I may have gotten a pass to go with my munchkin all the time. It is one of her most favorite places to go when we lived up in the bay area.

A great park for small kids (I think 2-8 years old) with many famous kids' stories like Alice in wonderland, the three little pigs and more. Admission is only 8$ per person and the kids have activities here for a full day.

It's one of the best places to take your child. You can only go if you have a child, as no single adult is admitted.
The park covers 10 acres of kid heaven. There are puppet shows, theater events, birthday parties, summer sleepovers, and much more.
Very cool place for kids, and it's only $8 per person.

a classic and funtastic children's theme park in oakland of all places. sure it has no huge thrill rides and the fancy big guy corporate thing going on but this place rocks! i still have the original key my mom gave me from the 50's. that little yellow key gives me so many memories. that darn yellow dragon thing with the long tongue used to freak the crap out of me! i need to revisit children's fairyland very soon and bring back those trippy memories.

You're Never Too Old to Have a Happy Childhood!
It's true that Children's Fairyland is a little frayed at the edges and do watch out for the Canada Geese-related mess outside the entrance. Yet, previously through the eyes of my stepdaughter and my son, and now through Gayle's grandchildren, this place remains magical.
