    La Piojera

If you're gonna come to Santiago, you should come to this place and have a "Terromoto" cocktail. That's a drink made with wine, pineapple ice cream, and a little Fernet. As the ice cream melts, the drink gets better. This place has a great ambience. And, if you went to Pat O'Brien's in New Orleans to try a "Hurricane", you ...

    Emporio La Rosa

In another life, I lived in Santiago for three years to study at one of the best Comparative Literature programs in the world. It took me a year and a half to discover Emporio La Rosa and two full minutes after that to realize that my relationship with ice cream had forever been changed. Not only is Emporio stupid-cute (old-timey ...

    The Clinic

    6 reviews

The Clinic is boht a bar and an alternative weekly publication that has been around for decades, challenging Chile's conventional powers with acuteness and hilarity. The restaurant is a classic leftie gathering place. The walls are lined with historic front pages, pictures of Allende, Pinochet looking diabolic, Bachelet skewered for her centrism. You'll usually see revolutionary looking students enjoying greasy ...

Donde Augusto is my favorite restaurant in the Mercado Central in downtown Santiago, Chile. The seafood is to die for, and the papas fritas (french fries) where hot and tasty!

Good variety of food, a little pricey, perfect atmosphere, tight seating but plenty of it, surprisingly has a no smoking section.

    Aquí Está Coco

    3 reviews

Beautiful bar and dining room that is filled nightly because Aqui esta Coco serves wonderfully and creatively prepared fresh seafood with attentive service. The dining area is like a nautical art museum with its collection of really cool pieces. We had a great dining experience here.

    Fuente Alemana (Plaza Italia)

    3 reviews

Although this restaurant is known for its lomitos (a pork sandwich), their completos are also a must. The place is over 50 years old and it still keeps its charm. Sit at the bar, order an italiano (a hot dog with avocado, tomato and mayonnaise) and a glass of the house's beer and enjoy! A great place to start your ...

    Galindo

    3 reviews

Said to be Pablo Neruda's favorite restaurant, this charming eatery in Bella Vista serves up high quality Chilean food. Their hearty traditional fare like mechada, lomo salteado and white beans with pumpkin are incredible. Service is slow and it gets crowded quickly. It's fairly kid friendly: they have a high chair and it's loud.

    Resto-Bar Ky

    3 reviews

We were awed by the eccentric and colorful decor and pleased with the pretty good Thai food at this place. You walk up to a door that looks like just another door in a residential neighborhood and you are buzzed into a candle-lit and flamboyant world. The restaurant is multi-storied and has a massive back patio. I devoured the Pad ...

    Dominó

    2 reviews

Dominó was the first picada in the city considered the best place to go if you wanted to eat a classic completo (Chilean hot-dog). However, over the years, Dominó has transformed into one of the first fast-food chains in Chile. Even though still recommendable to try a fresh fruit juice or a completo, Dominó has lost the “cheap, good, no ...

    Opera

    2 reviews

Opera is a first class French contemporary restaurant. From the decor, to the service, there is great attention to details. The food preparation shows style and great presentation. The wine selection is excellent as you would expect in an upscale Chilean restaurant, but I was pleasantly surprised to find great international selections as well. Well worth the price.

    Plaza Baquedano

    2 reviews

The Baquedano area is the heart of the city. This square was inaugurated in 1875 as Plaza La Serena. It is located next to Avenida Providencia, Avenida O'Higgins, the Parque Forestal and the bohemian neighborhoods of Bella Vista and Bellas Artes. This is also the place where Chileans gather whenever something big happens, like a victory in football.

    Poker Bar

    2 reviews

The completo is Chile’s version of the U.S. hotdog. You can order yours covered in cheese, tomato, avocado, onions, chucrut (a pickled mixture of cabbage and onion combined) or a combination of the above and more. The dish is quick, cheap and very popular. One of the longest-standing, most traditional places in Santiago to try your first completo is Poker ...

    El Huerto

This is a terrific vegetarian restaurant right in Providencia. The food is really tasty, although it's not cheap. It kind of has a berkeley vibe, for people who are missing some tasty california green food.
