Chimney Mountain is my first and favorite place to go caving in the United States. The trail head is a grueling half mile ascent into a valley formed by the two peaks of the mountain. Throughout the valley are caves formed by the intrusion of ice. Some are merely spaces of rock that you can wriggle through while others are multi-tiered passageways leading deep underground with frosty chambers large enough to stand up in. If you're bored in Lake George and like a little adventure (and don't suffer from claustrophobia at all), give Chimney Mountain a shot.
