The Chrysler is a NYC icon. Although it is frequently overshadowed by the Empire State, which has a viewing platform for tourists, I find the Chrysler to be much more my style. It is hard to miss in the skyline!

In 1928, architect William Van Alen designed the Chrysler Building which was included in an intense competition in NYC to build the world's tallest skyscraper. Even though the Empire State Building surpassed the Chrysler Building's height and record of the world's tallest building a year after completion, the Chrysler Building still stood tall as an excellent reflection of Art Deco style. The building is a must see if you're doing a walking tour in the vicinity of Grand Central Station.

I think it's the most beautiful building in the city. You'll get the best view from the top of the Empire State Building! ;)

The Chrysler Building is the ultimate art-deco masterpiece. The use of materials and the fixtures of the building were all designed to reflect the beauty and power of Chrysler's automobiles, which was especially true during the 1930's and 40's. The Chrysler is more than likely the second most famous building in Manhattan.

It's not a time consuming visit. You can simply drop by, enjoy the interior and leave. Why visiting Chrysler Building? To see their lobby. This building is a classic example of Art Deco architecture, inside and out. In 2007, it was ranked ninth on the List of America's Favorite Architecture by the American Institute of Architects. The lobby is stunning. Slowly move your eyes and see all the arts in the walls and ceiling. Free to enter the building.

When it comes to New York City's iconic skyscrapers, there's the Chrysler Building and then there is everything else! An Art Deco style skyscraper that I wish could be visited on top.

This is one the stunning buildings in NYC, best seen from Rockfeller and Empire state building. You can walk through the lobby from Grand Central Terminal (Which is another good spot to hangout)

This is my favorite building in NYC and somewhat like Lady Liberty it is best viewed from afar...in this case I would say go inside because the lobby space is amazing! What I really love is that the silver gargoyles around the building are Eagles!

The Chrysler Building is a n Art Deco masterpiece and one of the most beautiful tall buildings in the city. As such, it's better from far away than up close. The inside isn't as interesting.

If you're into art deco, this is the place to visit in New York. The roof is one of the most recognizable pieces of "art" in the whole of New York City.

The Chrysler Building is an Art Deco style skyscraper in New York City, located on the east side of Manhattan in the Turtle Bay area at the intersection of 42nd Street and Lexington Avenue. At 1,046 feet, the structure was the world's tallest building for 11 months before it was surpassed by the Empire State Building in 1931. It is still the tallest brick building in the world.

My favourite NY building at the junction of 42nd & Lexington... Was briefly the tallest in the world (11 months) until it was surpassed by the 'Empire State Building' in 1931... Do take a look at the glorious art deco lobby...

Description

The lobby of this working office building and former home of the Chrysler Corp. is the only section open to visitors but it is still worth a stop to marvel at the impressive art-deco interior. Often sited as one of America’s finest architectural achievements, this essential feature on the N.Y.C. skyline held the title of tallest building in the city from its completion in 1930 - that is, until the Empire State Building surpassed it just 11 months later.
