You can barely tell that this is a hotel now, and not a palace any longer. Amazing location right on the water and close to historic tourist sights.

Ortakoy is a small Bosphorus-side neighborhood at the foot of the Bosphorus Bridge in Istanbul. A 20 minute walk from Besiktas will bring you to Ortakoy where you will find a handsome baroque Ottoman mosque and many fish restaurants along the shore. Farther on, between Ortakoy and Arnavutkoy you will find some of the swankiest clubs in Istanbul.

Weren't able to make on this trip but deeply regretted. Heard both great things about food and lounge/club vibe (more than I can say for Reina). Great rooftop views. In Ortakoy as well which is another hip, cool Istanbul neighborhood on Bosphorus.

What a cool body of water! We ate dinner on a terrace overlooking the Bosphorus almost every night we were in Istanbul and never tired of watching the fishing boats and tankers cruise past- some loaded and riding low in the water and some empty with their hulls exposed. We even took a night cruise, which surpassed my expectations. Great ...

You almost have to check out a club while in Istanbul, even if you're not into the whole clubbing thing. This one is an institution - open air, right on Bosphorus. Hard to get in unless you dine and the dining is overpriced and underwhelming. If you can figure out a way to ensure entrance without dining, that's the way ...

Here is an Imperial Ottoman summer residence built in the 1860. The Beylerbeyi Palace is located at the Asian side of the Bosphorus. I came here with a day trip Bosphorus tour. A former Byzantine Orthodox Church, turned mosque, Hagia Sophia is one of the most celebrated of Istanbul's landmarks. Dating from 360, it is considered the epitome of Byzantine architecture. It has also served as a Roman Catholic church during the Latin Empire and was later turned into a mosque. It is now a museum. The outside façade isn’t remarkable in ...

Seen from above, it's undoubtedly Istanbul's most celebrated landmark. The mosque is popularly known as the Blue Mosque for the blue tiles adorning the walls of its interior. It is also known for its six minarets gracing the sky, one of the very few in the world to have that number, as most common is only four. You will be ...

While the exhibition program here is international in scope, the collection is predominantly Turkish. Istanbul Modern is undoubtedly the best place to see Turkish Modern Art. It's hung chronologically so visitors can see the development of Modern Art in Turkey: from the largely French-influenced early years to the flourish of recent years as Istanbul has become a centre of contemporary ...

The cistern was one of the most memorable places in Istanbul, with its immense pillars hauntingly illuminated from below. Once you make past the gaudy shop and cafe at the entry, the cistern is so vast ...

    Istanbul Archaeology Museum

3.37 mi from Ciragan Palace Kempinski

Istanbul Archaeology Museum is probably the best archaeology museum in the world that nobody knows about. Turkey has done an excellent job retaining its architectural treasures (partly through Draconian measures against taking anything more than 100 years old out of the country). The IAM is a showcase of the best Anatolian cutural exhibits in the world. The ancient wing in ...

It never fails to amaze me how much history is crammed into the area of Sultanahmet. Of course in Istanbul when they say New Mosque (Yeni Camii), they mean built in 1597 - but wasn't fully completed until 1665. This is another beautiful example of Ottoman architecture and was built by an apprentice of Mimar Sinan. Located in the Eminönü district it is an easy walk from Sultanahmet.

Rustem Pasha is one of neatest buildings in Istanbul. It differs from other Ottoman mosques in a few ways. First, it's tucked away on a side street near the Spice Bazaar. Second, it's not nearly as large as Sultanahmet or Yeni Camii. Third, the mosque is elevated. Once inside the tile and wood work are exquisite and the feeling of ...
