Fun, funky, and very modern. The citizenM is unconventional and untraditional, but that doesn't mean its unenjoyable. It feels more like a museum or some kind of activity center when you first walk in - where you check yourself in at a desk of computers. There's a central food court instead of a proper restaurant, and artistic-design furniture spread out all over the ground floor lets you eat, drink, work, and even watch TV/movies. There's a separate "wing" from the main lounge for quieter working space, and the rooms are just plain cool. They felt more like a high-end dorm room, or one of those bedrooms your best friend had when you were teenagers and you were always jealous of. There's free Wi-Fi, free on demand movies, and a touch panel that lets you adjust anything in the room from temperature to the blinds. The bathroom is not a separate room, though - the shower and toilet areas are encased in glass pods right in the middle of the room. This can be cool or not, so make sure you're traveling with/sharing a room with someone you're comfortable with. Definitely a cool, unique experience!

What you need to know:
-Maximum 2 people in a room
-Super small, yet efficient space
-Toilet and shower are in glassed in tubes
-Enormous 2m x 2m bed
If you can live with all of that, then you will LOVE this hotel! Things that were super fun:
-TV with loads of channels along with free movies
-Super soft duvet and pillows
-Free phone calls
-European, American and British electrical outlets!
-In room safe
-Loads of seating in the lounge with books, TV and a canteen open 24/7
-Amazing location a 3 minute walk to a train station, a Metro station, two different tram stations and a bus station. Basically, you can get anywhere.
If you have privacy issues, this is not the place to come with your best friend. As a solo traveler, I loved it and I can imagine it would be super fun as a couple.

With nearly every function in the room controlled via remote, it's a techie's blissful wet dream. iMacs are available near the loby, just incase you somehow managed to leave your computer at home. Walk down the long white corridor to your 'pod' (aka room) and you'll find a smart layout conserving space without making you feel claustrophobic. Changing techno-colored shower lights will prepare you for a night on the town in Amsterdam. Rent a bike, though - it's a small ride away from the city center. Careful, though, the TV messages from Citizen M might make you feel like you're being assimilated...in a good way.

This place is really fun and quirky, with unique furniture, small but really stylish and technology-packed rooms, and a do-it-yourself concept that's actually kind of refreshing. You won't be waited on hand and foot here, but you won't be ignored either - they provide the goods, you enjoy them.
