Constructed during a period dubbed the American Renaissance, City Hall is a beautiful display of architecture serving as the political heart of San Francisco. It’s significance is made even more clear if you’ve ever seen the film Milk, starring Sean Penn. It was here that Harvey Milk and Mayor Moscone were murdered.
The area around City Hall is quite nice, though at moments it can seem shady as you head closer to Civic Center. The grassy area also surrounded by the Asian Art Museum and Bill Graham Civic Auditorium is a great place to relax on a warm day with banh mi from the nearby local favorite, Saigon Sandwiches.Recommended for:

I did not visit the City Hall until very recently for close-to 20 years I lived in this city. While surrounding area needs some cleaning up to do, architecture and interior is magnificent. The rotunda is beautiful and it is very well maintained. The famous staircase is very popular among those who get married there.

I love City Hall. I've never been inside, but I loved walking by it on my way to and from class. If you go at the right time of day, you might catch an Off the Grid gathering or some interesting protest. If you're there at night, it looks gorgeous when it's lit up against the night sky. And if one of the big Bay Area teams happens to be playing at the time, you might recognize the colors on City Hall.

One of the most beautiful SF landmarks to get married at. An intimate day ceremony at the top of the steps of the Rotunda is as stunning as an extravagant private evening wedding inside the Rotunda. And you'll be able to put that $100K towards your new home together.

I only write this regarding the Black and White Ball and the my friends impromptu wedding here. Yeah - I have both spectrums of friends....don't ask me why?
So for the BnW it was nice that they had used the actual building as a back drop for part of the light show....and the food and music inside was great. I never knew that the interior was so spacious and elegant looking. I can see why people throw events there.
On the other hand I was also there one time to bare witness to my friend's wedding - which I might add didn't last and no it wasn't my fault that it didn't last.
so minus 1 star for the failed marriage - boo to you cityhall!!!
