Civic Center Inn, located a few short blocks from City Hall, the Asian Art Museum, and the San Francisco Main Library is on the edge of Civic Center, and the Tenderloin. The location is convenient, but it's in a sketchier part of town. If you're not afraid of homeless folks wandering the neighborhood and you want a no-frills budget-friendly motel, Civic Center Inn is not too bad. Rooms are small, but well-kept. Staff are friendly and they have security during the evening hours because of the location. If you walk North up Polk Street, there are plenty of great bars and restaurants. If you head East toward Little Saigon, or the Tenderloin, there are good, cheap eats, although, again, the neighborhood is not the best. I would not recommend this motel for people traveling with children or family. They do, however, try their best to put older guests in rooms closest to the lobby, so that there is less noise. Free parking is available and free Wi-Fi is currently available in the lobby only, but they are planning to expand it to the rest of the motel.

Civic Center Inn is a motel with rooms you would expect from an average motel. Parking and Wi-Fi are free, and the service here is friendly and professional. The only major downside is its location. There are homeless people always loitering around this block, and while security is provided at this motel, it's not a place I would recommend for my parents or those with kids. If you're young travelers, however, this could be a good option.
The staff do a smart job with offering the option of rooms closer to the lobby to older guests. Again, security is present during certain hours of the day, and the whole property is surveyed using CCTV video cameras. They are very professional with maintaining the safety of the property.
Still, it's not so pretty seeing strange people wandering about just outside.
