Although my very first impression of the place was less than stellar, everything very quickly became delightful. The uniqueness of the place really unfolds the more time you spend there. I enjoyed basking in the sun in the glassed-in terrace right off the garden, taking advantage of the free wifi. The garden is really lovely. There are lots of tables out there and space to wander, which is a welcome retreat from the bustle of Florence. The painting behind the bar is adorable -- a view of a traditional garden (what one might have seen had there been a window there when the building was first built). Buffet breakfast was nice and hefty. The room was standard. Nothing to write home about but no problem either.Recommended for:

This charming hotel is a converted 19th century villa. Each room is different, and some are expansive and ornate. It's location is both a plus and a minus. You get a garden, free parking (!) and a quiet atmosphere, but, it's a bit of a walk via the Porto Romano to the center of old Florence. It's a very special place, for those who don't mind the walk. If you're enterprising, you can take the bus there.Recommended for:

I love being here! While the reception wasn't exceptionally helpful, the feeling of the whole place is just absolutely charming. There's a BEAUTIFUL garden in the back, and the sunny terrace just feels like a little paradise. When you need a break from the hustle and bustle of sightseeing, I recommend taking a book to one of the many comfortable couches or seats in the communal areas (seems like there's a plush seat in every nook and cranny!) where I could easily imagine spending a long afternoon. The rooms are a bit old-fashioned (although the room I was in also had a view of the beautiful garden) but really what I think makes this place spectacular is the location (near the Boboli gardens), the general lushness of life that surrounded the place, and the comfortable "homey" atmosphere.
