A very modern & sleek hotel. If you've ever stayed at a Morgans Hotel group hotel, this fits right in, although I found it more approachable than some other Morgans hotels (e.g. St. Martins Lane in London).
Lots of eclectic art scattered around the lobby, the rooms are very comfortable, but still retain an air of sleek minimalism. The room I stayed in was almost all white, no frills. Service here is great, and the location is fairly central - easy access to shopping and restaurants nearby. People frequently get upgraded here - especially if you're checking in late.

People love this place for some reason. I can't stand it. The place is full of cheesy out-of-towners and trying-too-hard-to-be-hip locals, the drinks are so-so, and the music is awful. Nice decor though.

Chic, hip, and modern, this hotel isn't decorated like most other places in the city. There's a ginormous chair in the lobby and there are mirrors everywhere. Between the mirrors in the hallway and in every room of your suite, it's almost like they're catering to a vain clientele. Kidding, kidding, but seriously: how do they keep all those mirrors so pristine? If there were little kids running around (and I don't think I've ever seen one here), they'd rub their hands all over the reflective surfaces. The lobby is dim, but the living rooms (and consequently the bedrooms, since there aren't doors) are bright and airy. You might find a small, purple chair or a large, orange dinner table in your room, but the eccentricity of it all somehow works well together. They don't really have parking, but there are several garages within walking distance (as in a block or two).

Its nice and trendy hotel but its a bit pricey for that you're getting. I say its a good 4-star if you don't mind the price. The Redwood room downstairs a great place to have a drink.Recommended for:Trendsters

I was on a 2 week business trip to San Francisco, and my company forgot to put me up at a hotel. So as soon as I arrived at SFO, our office manager went about looking for deals nearby the office which was in SOMA area. The office manager said she could only get a one-night at a place nearby called the "CLIFT" for tonight, and the rest of the two weeks near the airport, which I could get a rental car to get to. Said she got an incredible deal... so I thought... hmmm got lucky on getting something really cheap, nearby, so it's probably not so great... I can walk to the place. The office manager mentions she has a friend who works at the bar there, so suggested i check it out. ... so without much expectation, I arrive, and the place is awesome!!! The bar is classy, the furniture and lobby is classical but modern... beautiful... and then I get to the room... nicest SF victorian architecture I've ever lived in (even for a day) and the soap.... yeah... the soap is in this cool plastic designed box, beautiful.... I liked it so much, i asked for another one when checking out... and graciously was given one. Even though it was for one night... i'll never forget how an unplanned disastrous situation, turned out to be the best hotel stay I ever had! I await the day that I can bring my family to stay at this hotel. the beauty of the architecture, the interior uniqueness, never found in a chain hotel... the while linen... the soap!!! and the classy bar and the convenience of walking out of the hotel smack in the middle of urban union square... Nothing has beaten this yet.Recommended for:Business Travelers

Famous for its Redwood room, the Clift Hotel also has hotel rooms! The decor in the hotel rooms is modern & clean and no-fuss. It will be hosting free summer music nights in the hotel bar, and for this I am more excited to go. In addition to the warm redwood walls, I love the new media portraits hanging on the walls. So Harry Potter.
An eclectic collection of modern furnishings provide contrast with the hotel's Italian Renaissance exterior, which was originally constructed in 1913. Legend claims that the bark from a single California redwood comprises the walls of the Redwood Room, the hotel's renowned bar. The 30-foot ceilings, digital art, subdued lighting and leather and velvet furnishings attract celebrities and local trendsetters. Additional hotel amenities include a business center with high-speed Internet access for a fee. Recreational offerings include a fitness center with cardiovascular equipment.
The Clift, A Morgans Original, offers 372 guestrooms with sumptuous bedding consisting of down comforters and 400-thread count cotton linens. Custom-made white-birch furnishings complement rich velvet, leather and silk fabrics. Guestroom décor features sleigh beds and Venetian-glass lamps and desks. All accommodations include coffeemakers, minibars and laptop-compatible in-room safes. Tech-savvy enhancements include flat-panel televisions and mp3 docks.
