While there's nothing much to recommend Coban, there's also nothing wrong with it -- just a medium-sized Guatemalan city like countless others. At most, you'll spend a night here on your way somewhere else.

Small town and capital of Alta Verapaz. Coban is on the main road between Guatemala City and Flores. There are several nice ecotourism options in the area around Coban, but the town itself doesn't have a whole lot to offer tourists.

Coban isn't much more than a crossroads for most tourists. If you're coming from Tikal or Guatemala City/Antigua, this is the turn-off point to go East to Lanquin and Semuc Champey. If you're headed that way (and you should be), Coban is your last chance to go to a bank, so pick up plenty of cash and a hearty lunch before hitting the bumpy road to Lanquin.
