The Hotel Colosseum is anything but modern, in fact, it feels almost like being in Rome in the 1950s. The furniture is all antique wood, and the lobby looks a little like a country lodge that you might find up in the north of Italy. The classic, quiet feeling as you walk on marble floors to the roof terrace. Even the service seems transplanted from another era, with formal Italian men in suits practicing their classic hospitality trade. As is common in Italian culture, unfortunately they get a little thrown by surprises, and don't deal so well with unexpected requests. Don't rock the boat and you'll be just fine. The location is certainly fabulous, on a quiet, cobblestoned side street smack in the middle of Rome and walking distance from the Forum.Recommended for:

This place is cool in the oldest school way: carved wooden chairs in the extensive lobby and painted ceiling and colored-tile floor in the breakfast room. The whole place was very clean. I loved the rooftop terrace with full panorama for sunbathing and relaxing. The lobby was really gorgeous – I felt like I was in a castle, right here in the middle of Rome. Another nice perk: a computer and printer were available for guest use in the lobby. The only thing that prevents me from giving Hotel Colosseum 5 stars was the poor hospitality – they were polite(ish) and did not deal well with surprises at all.Recommended for:

This hotel is centrally located and you can walk to everything. It is pretty small but clean, the staff is friendly, and the breakfast is consistently good. Our room and bath were very small but we were on the top floor which means we had a really nice balcony with table, chairs and an awning so we could bask in the sun or not. There is also a very nice common space on the roof. Not to shabby for the price. I would ask for the top floor becasue the private balcony really made up for the tiny bath.
