My trip to Rome wouldn't be complete without a trip to the Colosseum. I didn't go inside because I opted out of the tour but for those enthusiasts who do want to see it, book tickets in advance or with your tour group. It beats waiting in that long line. It seems smaller than I thought it would be but considering they constructed this over 1900 years ago without the use of modern machinery, it's definitely a feat to be seen in person. It's rather impressive nonetheless and you can see the change in architecture throughout the years in each level.
The street leading up to the Colosseum and Roman Forum was blocked off. I'm not sure if this is normal or just because of the Christmas holidays but I was grateful nonetheless. I hear it's even better at night but only got to see it during the day.

The colosseum is a VERY touristy place, expect men dressed as ancient romans trying to make a buck out of tourist pictures, expect people trying to sell the worst pizza you've ever eaten outside, but it is a must.
To avoid the lines, buy the Roma Pass or the Colosseum tickets online, otherwise, you'll spend half a day just waiting outside.
As you may expect, there is very little beauty left of the original Colosseum, but you can marvel at its greatness and see the galley structures inside. Also, don't forget to walk the outer corridors, it's full of stories and statues that are more interesting than the inside itself.

Legacy of barbarism aside, this is just majestic. Simply incredible to behold! There is a reason why this is rightly one of the moderns of the world. Do not miss.

Colosseum is the most famous monument in Rome, you cannot miss it! From the apartment you can reach it with bus 8 or walk past Isola Tiberina Bridge and then to Piazza Venezia in 20 minutes!

Touring the colosseum inside is, of course, impressive, but my favorite part about this monument is the way it lights up at night. The crowd has subsided a bit, the lights begin to glow, and this historic ruin looks like a flickering candle. Take a seat on the grass outside and people watch with one of Rome's most famous sites in the background.

The Colosseum is one of those things you obviously have to see if you're in Rome. I'm probably in the minority here, but I didn't feel a massive need to spend a lot of time there. It was cool to see it. I'm glad I did, but it isn't one of my favorites. FYI, be wary of the Spartans taking photos with people outside. They're a bit obnoxious about wanting your money for a photo. Very pushy, too.

The Colosseum is probably the most impressive building of the Roman empire. Originally known as the Flavian Amphitheater, it was the largest building of the era. The monumental structure has fallen into ruins, but even today it is an imposing and beautiful sight.Recommended for:History Buffs
