Columbus had hard times for a bit, but it might be on the rise again. Local businesses are stepping up to clean up the downtown and make it friendly for visitors. It still feels a bit sterile and lifeless though downtown practically clears out at the end of the business day.

First stop on our way to Mississippi Riverboat trip. The Columbus Zoo was great. Every animal was in healthy condition. Took a whole day just to see the zoo. Plan two days if bringing kids to waterpark. Grizzly pounded on thick acrylic viewing wall and scared the poop out of me! Nice people working there. Lunch choices plentiful but lines a little hectic.

I really liked Columbus, altho it seemed a bit strung out to me. I loved traveling in Ohio and my stay in Columbus was fun and interesting. Never seen so many people that had children and not a mixture of cultures. I am a California girl so we have a large mixture of cultures.

Grew up in this town. Short North has a lot to offer as far as entertainment (bars and unique shops), Easton has awesome shopping and restraunts. The Columbus Zoo is very nice for families and beautiful during the christmas holidays. Avoid the West Side lots of crime in the area.

Columbus is almost there. With some excellent restaurants, an interesting arts scene, and a largely open-minded and diverse population, Ohio's capital is far more interesting than you might expect. While visiting, make sure to try some of the local products of which Columbus is rightly proud: OYO vodka, Jeni's ice cream and Sugardaddy's brownies to name just a few.

The was the second city we went to in our tour of Ohio. This is a pleasant medium size city with some nice neighborhoods. We also went to the basket company - Longaberger. The headquarters building is shaped like a basket and the factory had a great tour.

Visited Columbus for my first NHL game last week. I had only been to the city for a football game at Ohio State University but had never really been downtown. Every year, they host the Arnold Schwarzaneggar Classic downtown.
Columbus is a very clean city, everything looks shiny and new. Everyone was extremely friendly, it is much like a larger Lexington, KY; a college city. As far as dining, I recommend Buca Di Beppo and the Three Legged Mare; an Irish pub.
The Blue Jackets game was a lot of fun; beautiful arena with plenty to do in the Arena District. There are plenty of hotels withing walking distance of the arena including the Hyatt, Crowne Plaza and Renaissance. Will certainly be back although there is plenty more to do in Cincinnati, Cleveland and Nashville.

Columbus is surprisingly fun. People that fear midwest towns should give it a chance if their travels take them nearby. A lot of good bands show up in the venues on High Street, which also offers a cool variety of shops and bars. The Short North and German Village also make for great wandering. Also, while Easton isn't for me, it's a consumerist Mecca that makes hardcore shoppers happy.

Description

Columbus, Ohio's capital, is one of the midwest United States' most vibrant cities. Rated as one of the best places to raise a family, it has the heartland written all over it. Innovation is no stranger to Columbus, which saw the world's first water filtration plant during the 1908 Columbus Experiment. Today there is a lively student population at Ohio State University, filled with Germanic ... read more
architecture, some very decent museums, and exciting nightlife. Named for Christopher Columbus (and sporting a replica Santa Maria docked on the Scioto River) the "Arch City" is accessible and welcoming, fun but not ostentatious.
