- Commodores Inn
It’s a little way out of Stowe village, back towards Waterbury (home of Ben and Jerry’s). So, you’re quite far from the Stowe ski areas and Mount Mansfield. However, the slightly unappealing location is more than made up for with some very appealing prices – in 2012 room rates started at $78 per night in the off-season and $108 nightly in the high season. The décor of the inn’s public areas and guest rooms is a little motel-like, but if you’re in Stowe you’ll likely be outdoors most of the time – who cares what your room looks like? This family-friendly inn is cheap, large and offers in-season lake fishing and free kayaking in addition to both indoor and outdoor swimming facilities.Recommended for:
- Commodores Inn
The Commodores Inn is a sometimes jarring mixture of casual and classy, with a bit of a nautical theme thrown in for good measure. This large resort offers both indoor and outdoor swimming pools, free kayaking on their lake, and the opportunity to stuff yourself silly at their “country dinner buffet.” The buffet runs for several hours each day during peak season, and features hearty fare such as meat, poultry, prime rib, pasta, salad and soups. For another informal chow option, the sports club offers pub-grub options – fried food is well-represented, from onion rings to French fries, mozzarella sticks or the British tradition of fish’n’chips.
- Commodores Inn
Like the famous Commodores song, this inn is “easy like Sunday morning.” The location isn’t the best – it’s on the far side of Stowe village from the mountain ski area – but the resort has room to spread out in across 30 acres of lakeside property. You can’t go wrong with multiple buffets, Jacuzzis and an indoor pool.
