Comm. Ave in the Back Bay is one of the prettiest streets in all of Boston, and this hotel is smack in the middle of it. Unfortunately the buck stops there as far as effusive praise I can give this place. First off, there is no elevator, so if you get a room on the top floor, you'll be a little winded after walking up the three flights of stairs to get there. Secondly, the staff are not overly friendly, which, in my opinion, should be the cornerstone of a smaller, inn-type property. The rooms are pretty outdated and the bathrooms and kitchenette areas are both really small. There are plenty of more charming "guest houses" in the area than this one; you just might not be able to beat this location.

The Commonwealth Court Guest House is the sort of place you visit simply for the experience of staying in a grand old Comm. Ave. Brownstone. The treelined Comm. Ave. is quiet, picturesque and peaceful. And the location is fantastic, as you are only a short walk away from Newbury Street, the esplanade, the prudential center, the gardens, Copley Square and the green line. The rooms, however, are nothing special. They'll do the trick for a few nights sleep, but I wouldn't personally want to hang out in there all day. I felt like a lot more could have been done with such a great building in such a wonderful spot. The place would benefit from a redesign.
