Iconic Coney Island is an absolute must see in the summer. In the winter not much is going on, but in the summer it is one of the best places to go people watching in New York. Check out the many piers where you'll find an amazing diversity of people hanging out, fishing, and dancing. Check out the freak show for a good time, and grab a Totonno's Pizza while you are visiting.Recommended for:

Coney Island is the perfect place to go to in the summertime to feast on beers, oysters, hot dogs, and take stroll around the boardwalk to check out the amusement park rides.Recommended for:

I am tempted to give it 2 stars but Coney Island had its glory day that are now long time gone. Today Coney Island is trashy place with bad parking situation. With all of the negatives there is still Coney Island Cyclone - wooden roller-coster that opened in 1927. If you find yourself in this are of Brooklyn - go take a stroll on boardwalk along the Atlantic Ocean and enjoy Nathan's famous hot dog otherwise - skip it.

Go with friends, go to the Nathan's hot dog place, enjoy a 48oz. Killian's Irish Red beer for 7$ in a regular soda cup that allows you to take it anywhere. You can't get lids for beer though since its not supposed to be allowed off of the property, but its easy to get a large cup of something else and transfer the lid. Anyways, get booze, go ride stuff and hang on the beach. Coney Island was easily one of the most fun times I've had in the city. Just be warned, the cyclone roller coaster will murder your lower back.

It's a nice lunapark on a boardwalk. However, it opens at noon only - too late for some people. And also there is no cool zone there to cover from heat.
The rides are great, but buying tix is confusing. I got a $25 10 rides card and kids dragged me somewhere I couldn't use it. So I had to buy them more tix. Nobody explained anything about where which tickets apply. I still got that 10 rides card so we'll have to go back there!Recommended for:

Not as cool as when the Steeplchase Park was across the street from Nathan's Famous on the corner. It still has the histroic and classic wooden Cyclone Roller Coaster that has you feeling you will go out into the water or onto the beach. Still a great place to watch fireworks on holidays from the beach. great boardwalk and fun !

Coney Island is a weird tacky trashy place, but it is still a lot of fun. If you like roller coasters, the Cyclone is worth the whole trip. An old wooden coaster, it bumps and jerks you around in a way that is wholly terrifying and really really fun. There's plenty of good people watching on the boardwalk too. It would probably take a lot to get me to go here in the summer (and I've been here in the summer before), but it's very manageable and less insane in the spring -- when the weather is nice but it's still too cold to go swimming.

Although Coney Island's charm has mostly worn away, it's worth seeing just to say you've seen it. You can dip your feet into the Atlantic Ocean, play games along the boardwalk, and eat a hot dog at Nathan's Famous.
