The only good thing about this hotel is its location. The rooms are in dire need of renovation. Having said that, we obtained a very good rate compared to neighboring and newer hotels.

Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, the Germans come to Chicago to set up a traditional Christmas market. There's food and booze, christmas trinkets, and german candies and pastries. Dress warm because it can be bitterly cold.Popular withFamilies

The Chicago River has a bad reputation for its polluted past, but the city has taken great strides to clean it up. They've also done a lot of work to make the riverwalk an appealing destination, and it's one of my favorite spots downtown. I especially love hanging out in the park near State Street, where you can sit and ...Popular withLocalBudgetBusiness

Doesn't attract the caliber of acts that regularly play at Kingston Mines, but this sister bar across the street has some hidden gems depending on what night you go. Also, if you pay cover on Sunday night you get into Kingston Mines for free, too. Pretty sweet deal.Popular withAdventure

The best way to really get a good feel for the city is to bike it. You can rent bikes by the day at Navy Pier or Millenium Park. Riding by the lake and beach is the lifestyle of Chicagoans during the warm days. Walking is just as fun too, but watch out for those speed-bikers.. they have no mercy!

Water taxi can be a nice way to avoid the hectic street traffic in Chicago. On a clear day - early in the morning or just about sundown chugging along the river amidst the sky scrapers will provide you good photo opportunities.Popular withAdventureBusiness

So, so very Chicago. Even if you can't make it to a show, it's worth walking by just to snap a picture of the quintessential logo. The theater is red velvet with gold trip and just beautiful. I have seen some amazing performances come through this historic venue.

The oldest jazz club in Chicago, Jazz Showcase has been treating visitors to excellent music since 1947. Though it has changed locations a few times before setting up shop at its current Dearborn Station spot, attentive listeners and an intimate atmosphere have always been there. Talented musicians who have graced the stage here include Dizzy Gillespie, Chris Potter, and Frank ...Popular withLocalLuxuryNightlife

This theater is super old but has great shows here. Currently, the Book of Mormon is here so it is packed all the time. If you want to see the show, a cheap option is to do the same-day lottery at the box office held two hours before each performance. The winners can get 1-2 tickets to the front rows ...
