Chicago's historic and haunted hotel is a great choice for a bit of luxury with a tale to tell. Al Capone reportedly spent time here, and so many U.S. Presidents held meetings here that it earned the hotel the nickname 'Home of Presidents.'

Lets start off by saying I travel A LOT(3-4 Different Hotels A Week) When I walk into a hotel I at least expect it to l o o k like one. When I check in, I also expect excellent customer service. I am NOT looking to have an asshole to tell me "Im not going to check you in because youre tapping your card on the desk." You would expect a little more class from a woman who has not been provoked in any sort. So imediately I ask to speak to the manager, she claims she is the manager. Only to find out through the general manager that is in fact NOT a manager at all. Afterwards I left because the nasty attitude alone, was enough for me to not want to check in at all. I called to Orbitz wanting to recieve my money back on a room Ive never even stayed in. The hotel policy stated that if I wanted to cancel, it would have to be 24hrs before so I wouldnt be recieving my money back. Luckily, my credit card company has me covered, especially after speaking to the general manager. I will NEVER refer this hotel to anyone I know. This was not going to be the first time I stayed here. This is not just one occurance, I could go on and on about the stench of a room and hallway to the reckless housekeepers who obviously doesnt know how to clean around a tub or sink when its clear as day someone was taking a bath but I wont. Happen once shame on them. Problem twice? Shame on me. I am truely DISGUSTED With this hotel and the name they created but never lived up to.

Walking into the Congress Plaza Hotel feels like entering another time period. Colorful mosaics and early 20th century artifacts allow you to escape from the hustle and bustle of the modern city outside and with two restaurants, a fitness center, gift shops and an abundance of banquet halls--you may never have to leave the hotel during your stay! Unless you're afraid of ghosts. Don't be alarmed, but this place is reportedly haunted. All I wanted to do during my visit was scare myself by getting lost in the hidden stairwells and corridors throughout the place. I couldn't help but think that Congress could be a lot better if they put a little money into renovating the interior of the rooms, which looked pretty shabby and run-down compared to some of the more grandiose features of the lobby and banquet rooms.

Location is great, near the Millenium Park, the lake and the start of the marathon. But it's in bad shape... Weird smell, creepy carpet and wall paper. Needs serious renovation. And how can hotels still charge $10 for 24h Wifi?

I love an old historic hotel as much as the next guy, but there's a certain point when things need to be updated and fixed. My experience with the Congress Plaza Hotel wasn't great. To start, all of the furniture in our room was cheap and scuffed up to death. The room had a funky smell to it and the walls/ceilings all had visually bad repairs. The decor was hideous (bad wallpaper of the hotel's logo, with matching curtains and some very disgusting carpet). The bathroom door was so old and crooked that it didn't even close properly. I know the hotel has a lot of history, and that's great, but I don't think they should be charging the kinds of prices they are without doing a little updating. The only thing this place really had going for it was location.

great location, great price, incredible view of everything from the 9th floor. is a bit run down, but was a very elegant hotel so has high ceilings, big windows, spacious room for the city, and quiet too. nice linens, marble tile in the bath, huge closet space. Too bad the windows were fairly dirty, but they face the lakeshore so must be hard to keep clean. didn't get 5 stars because you have to pay 10,/ day for internet, and it is a cable (which I wouldn't have been able to use with the ipad) that is only long enough to hook up and sit in front of a dresser! doesn't even reach the table. also, no coffee in the lobby, in room coffeemaker was inconvenient, had to go to dunkin donuts if you wanted coffee early. get a good look at the lobby, pool tables in there too
