Lower Manhattan's new iconic landmark now has its spire, making it the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere (for now). I'll save a star until it is fully open but great to see a triumph on the Twin Towers sight.

I’ve only ever been on a Sunday (it is a gay night), but Greenhouse is a really fun space. There are plants everywhere, but not in a tacky way, and the overall feel is very other-worldly. Be sure to check what’s going on any particular night, as the event will make a difference.

National September 11 Memorial & Museum

0.36 mi from Conrad New York

It is hard not to be moved by this monument. It is a very respectful tribute to the men, women and children killed in the terror attacks of September 11, 2001 and February 26, 1993. I felt a little awkward visiting it as a tourist but was glad I made the pilgrimage. I recommend visiting at dusk. The monument is ...

    Tweed Courthouse

0.55 mi from Conrad New York
    3 reviews

The Tweed Courthouse was built between 1861 and 1881 at the behest of the notoriously corrupt William Tweed (aka Boss Tweed) the political party boss of Tammany Hall that controlled New York City and New York State politics. Tweed was eventually arrested for siphoning off money earmarked for the courthouse for his own personal use. He was found guilty and ...

Biggest Chinatown in the US. Its gritty but you can easily feel like you've stepped into the back streets of Hong Kong and you'll only be one block from Canal. A must visit. Very unpleasant in the summer when the heat causes this part of the city to reek.

Nice park with good views of the Statie of Libery and New Jersey. A nice place to relax in the grass or go for a run. Great if you live near by but not particularly impressive as a tourist attraction.

    Staten Island Ferry

0.94 mi from Conrad New York
    73 reviews

I prefer the East River Ferry but this is a classic. Most people go to the top deck and view from the side. I think the views from the front of the second floor are the best and there are fewer tourists. Most people do a quick round trip but worth adding on a visit to one of Staten Island's ...

It's amazing to see how the skyline has changed. Before the towers came down I never imagined that I would ever see the city without those two towers sticking out of the southern part of Manhattan island. It took some time to get used to them not being there. When I was visiting New York recently I saw, from a ...

The bar is located on a back street in China town. The store front is a pharmacy (hence the name "Apotheke") but the inside is urban chic. Although a little past its prime in terms of the crowd, this is still one of my favorite bars. The cocktails are good and the speakeasy feel continues to inspire a sense of ...

My favorite good weather watering hole in Manhattan. This outdoor rooftop bar brings a bit of South Beach to Soho. Most of the bar is a large terrace with a small pool (you'd have to be insanely confident to swim here when the bar is open) and comfortable lounge chairs / couches. The views of downtown are excellent and you'll ...
