A great place to grab a drink and catch live music while on South Congress. There is a cover charge but the affordable drinks and above average bands are worth it.

What can be said about the legendary Continental Club that most live music lovers don't know? Of course, Stevie Ray Vaughn got his start here, when he was just "little Stevie". But so did many others, well-known and not-so-well-known. And the greats still play the place regularly, some for old-times' sake, some in gratitude for their start, and some just because it's known for appreciative, knowledgeable, dance-happy audiences. Check out their web site.

The Continental Club is iconic Austin at its finest. It's one of those places where you feel cooler the minute you step in the door and that feeling of coolness ain't from the AC, if you know what I mean. Since 1950, they've been rocking South Austin and you can feel the presence of greatness when you're there (all 3 Hank Williams have been on the stage here at one point or another) but my persona fav back in the day (we're talking mid 90's) were Sunday nights with local legend Junior Brown on his 'Guit Steel' - like Ernest Tubb and Jimi Hendrix had a baby and called him Jr. Brown. Anyway, check the Austin Chronicle while you're there 'cause they've always got a rowdy mix of road shows and local acts to keep ya'll coming back.

The legendary Continental Club is a part of Austin history. The place oozes hipster cool, you really will feel more beautiful and feel 6 inches taller the second you walk in. No visit to Austin would be complete without a visit. Always interesting bands and the best acoustics of any club in town.

So I am a little embarassed that it has taken me so many years to finally make it out to this place and when I did, it was on a random whim but well worth it. This place is iconic South Congress and has a whole lot of history behind it. While the demographic is definitely geared to an older, Austin hippie crowd you are guaranteed to have a good time. The band we listened to had a lot of heart and were definitely have a great time on stage. The music alone was worth it visit because it was upbeat and interesting. Another great benefit of making a visit here is the people watching. I could not smiling for the entire duration we stayed there. I would recommend taking a small group of friends with you and just enjoy the music and energy of the place.
