Copley House is an alternative option for those looking to balance in between a traditional hotel and hostel stay. The charm of the historical South End seemingly creeps its way into Copley House’s doors, providing a unique apartment style living experience. Blended into its surroundings, the building fits in with the surrounding residential area. Operated by two young staff members, Copley House is comprised of different colorful and modern style apartments on different floors. Equipped with air conditioning, kitchens, and just an overall classic feel, Copley House maintains a sense of humble and modest living that I most certainly appreciated.

Sometimes I just walk around the South End and fantasize about how nice it would be to live in one of the many amazing brownstones and brick buildings that line the neighborhood's quiet, picturesque streets. The fantasy becomes a reality with the Copley House, a series of suites and small apartments along W. Newton. A stay here is far from your typical hotel experience, but I think that's the best part about it. There's an old Boston vibe to the place that you just don't get in a high rise. What's more, the staff is pretty flexible about allowing multiple guests to share one room, so you can really get a good deal if you play your cards right.

Boston has several of these types of "Guest Houses," which are quaint alternatives to larger chain hotels. This particular guest house has an inviting, old staircase in the entry way, a small business center with one computer and a printer, and charming, cozy guest rooms that give off a definite B&B vibe. My room had a fireplace and a small sitting area, as well as a kitchenette on the side. Its unassuming brick exterior and its interior old-world décor makes this hotel seem worlds away from the bustling streets nearby, yet it is still within very short walking distance to the heart of the Back Bay. I would recommend it for someone who is looking for an urban retreat but still wants access to lots of great restaurants and shopping.
