One of the best restaurants I've been to in San Diego. Although there were a handful of people waiting for a table, the actual wait for our party of 2 wasn't very long. I've never had breakfast outdoors on a nice sunny day, so this was a real treat. I had the Eggs La Jolla, which was a Benedict style egg with the addition of mushrooms, spinach, tomato, garlic and balsamic vinegar. Our server Kelli (who was excellent) asked if I wanted avocado with it. Sure, why not? One bite had me at Helloooooo Benedict! This was unbelievably good. And the potatoes that came with it were cooked perfectly. I'm a bit ashamed to say that I wasn't able to finish it. *sigh*
During a later visit, I had the Windandsea omelette which was exploding with ham, tomato, mushrooms, spinach and havarti cheese. Not to mention topped with hollandaise sauce. *drools* The sides of potatoes and a scone with strawberry jam were awesome as well. Which brings me to the conclusion as to why I think breakfast is the most important meal of the day...because it's so darn good! Will I be able to part from it the next time I'm here? That'll definitely be a challenge.
I'd love to come back here for dinner one day. Keep in mind that they only serve it during the summer months.

Upon a super short trip to San Diego, I chose to have one of my favorite meals of the day (breakfast) here and I'm glad I came to The Cottage.
The food definitely doesn't compare to the breakfast and brunch spots I've had in LA, but no place in LA gives you complimentary coffee, blankets, and coffee cake while you wait, F YES
And not to mention, the spot is beautiful. Outdoor seating guarantees a breezy, sunny, and calm morning. And being seated inside gives you that beach-like feel with large windows and minimal decor.
We shared the Tuscan omelette (roasted tomato, chicken, brie topped with avocado) and the Baja Chicken Hash (poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, chicken sausage, chiles on top of crisp tortillas). Both were pretty solid dishes, although my hollandaise and overdone poached eggs were not memorable. (oh, no oozing yolk? on my shit list fasho)
I was a big fan of the tangerine mimosa … . But, I was a little disappointed that my latte was microwaved, upon the cup and drink to be scalding hot.
If you're La Jolla, Hollahollaholla

It's a little pricey but pretty decent breakfast option if you are looking for a quaint place to eat in downtown La Jolla. Expect a long wait on the weekends as it's pretty popular with UCSD students. They offer crab cakes, omelettes, eggs bendedict, french toast, and free cinnamon cake and coffee while you wait.
