Set up against the Irish Hills of SLO, near a newer strip mall off Los Osos road and next to a horse pasture, is this sparkling new Courtyard.
This hotel is pretty new, so the condition of everything is excellent. We had a larger double Queen room, which was decent size, with a pastoral view onto the green, grassy hills.
The hotel is V shaped into two wings, so half the rooms face onto the serene hills. It is 4 stories and has plenty of free parking.
The bathroom was nice, with all new fixtures and tiling, and had a 5 foot shower big enough for two (why you would be that intimate in the shower while sleeping in separate beds would be a mystery!). No bathtub.
The location isn't near downtown SLO, so if you have a car and can get around, this location is quieter and restful than those closer to the freeway.
I stayed here with my Marriott points, which cost about 20,000 for one night. When you do this, there is no charge for the room, and ergo, no local taxes either, although you do need to have a credit card for incidentals.
As is typical for Courtyards, there is a casual restaurant serving food and room service.
I usually stay at the Embassy Suites near the freeway, which is older and more dated and is showing its age, but has the free breakfast and managers' happy hour. But this is a really nice Hotel choice to stay in SLO.

The SLO Courtyard by Marriott doesn't really distinguish itself from any other chain hotel, except that it's location next to Cal Poly really can't be beat. There are also some added amenities that should be considered: there's an outdoor, heated pool with a really nice view of the surrounding area (but remember, sometimes it can be overcast and quite chilly in SLO), a fitness center, complimentary wi-fi and a nice lounge area.
