Cowles Mountain is a great hike and very accessible. I've seen people of all ages walk it, run it, with and without their dogs. Not too difficult but certainly a good workout. It is well maintained and used often. It can be very hot during the peak of the day and yes, rattlesnakes live here too!Recommended for:

Cowles Mountain’s 1,593-foot (486 m) summit is the highest point in the city of San Diego. The main trail to the summit is a popular hiking destination. The hike to the top is at least 1.5 miles one way, it a moderate hike, and it gets steep so wear the right shoes! Be prepared with water, a towel, snacks, flashlight (if sun is going down), etc. Fun spot for a not too hot day hike, and it’s also known for good full moon night hikes. Parking is easy on the main trail head cross street.Recommended for:

This is a great hike to take your friends and even your dog! It's a great work out as well. You'll see a lot of people running up the mountain and when you reach to the top, you have a great spectacular view.
