The Coyote is one of the places to be, whether it is a weeknight or weekend, in downtown Carlsbad. Open-mike karaoke and cozy stone firepits keep patrons happy and singing outside on the patio, or you can choose to sit inside away from the noise. Happy Hour from 4-6 during the week is a FAB deal, but hit it up after 10pm for the same discounts (except appetizers). It's the perfect place for a group of friends.Recommended for:

Coyote bar and grill is more for the older crowd. It is host to karaoke most nights of the week. It has decent drink specials during happy hour and a nice outside seating area with fire pits. This bar is more geared towards the relaxed crowd and not the go out and drink and party crowd.

If you are in Carlsbad, a sleepy little town known more for building blocks for 4 year olds than nightlife, this is the "spark after dark", "the late night place to be".
Coyote is in a 2 story wood framed open air mall in the Village of Carlsbad, downtown just passed the railroad tracks on Carlsbad Village Drive.
It has southwestern food, which here loosely means a mix of Tex-Mex and burgers, or Chili's with a Coyote theme. They have a cocktail area, a couple of large screens with sports, and a large outdoor patio seating area with gas fire pits for warming against the coastal fog that rolls in at night. The patio area is also the Karaoke area. with a spinmaster at controls and some pretty decent singers (probably regulars gearing up for American Idol number 37).
The customers are a mixture of shear-headed leathernecks looking for some fun other than in Oceanside, a few locals and tourists, and a batch of underaged suburban girls looking for some excitement in Carlsbad with drunk and hunky "the few and the proud".
If you go early for food, snacks or a drink, seems inocuous enough to relax. Later at night or the weekends, judging by the other suburbanite haters stuck looking for excitement in Carslbad, it is a scene you might want to avoid, since drunk Marines, underaged civilian girls, and surfer boyz mix into a potentially explosive cocktail, so they keep a tight lid on everyone.
Me, I just had a quick beer, some chips (the dip was supposed to be smokey Chipotle, but was bland with a lot of black specs). The service was fine, and the place was pretty calm.
