The hospitality here was uncommonly good. And it has a classic look that leans toward luxury without making a middle class guy feel too out of his league. The outdoor pool and hot tub stay open year-round, and the rooms are nicely-sized.

It’s a pleasant surprise to walk into this building. There’s a very large lobby, that though is a little over-the-top decoration-wise, offers a friendly and elegant atmosphere. Off of the side of the lobby is an on-site restaurant and huge dinning area with a lot of comfortable places to sit and enjoy your drink or meal. In the morning there is a complimentary breakfast with made-to-order omelets. Off to the other side of the lobby is a gift-shop and 24-hour workout facility. As well, there’s a spacious outdoor pool and hot tub. The staff are exceptionally nice and willing to help you with anything you may need, they even offer a free shuttle service to help you get around the city. The rooms are fairly average. This is really a good place if you need space to spread out or meet for business.

A hotel of about 290 rooms, Crowne Plaza is conveniently located between highways I-35, 183, and 290. The hotel is large with a full restaurant serving a variety of meals from Mexican to old-fashioned American hamburgers and a full bar that serves happy hour and Starbucks. Although pricing may vary based on the season, events, and other accommodations, the hotel always includes free WIFI, free parking, and shuttle service to and from the airport. Each room comes with a refrigerator, coffee, and Templespa shampoo and conditioner in the showers. There is also an outside pool and a fitness room for those wanting a work-out. Near the entrance of the pool is a small gift shop selling jewelry, hats, mugs, purses, etc. Crowne Plaza appears to be a pleasant stay.

This central Austin location (a few minutes north of downtown at the intersection of I-35, Highway 290 and 183) is a nice, if not basic, three-star option, especially for business travelers. The property is close to nearby corporate heavyweights, like Samsung and IBM and a free shuttle runs to the airport and back. The onsite Crossroads Grille is nice and roomy (with red leather booths) and serves breakfast (buffet style) and American fare, like burgers and sandwiches throughout the day. An outdoor pool and 24-hour fitness center round out amenities, like an exceptionally friendly staff.

There's nothing particularly beautiful or special about the Crowne Plaza Austin. It's your typical American 3-star hotel, located outside of the downtown area next to the highway. But unlike many similar hotels, this one seems very well-managed. The service is surprisingly friendly and attentive. They have a shuttle van service, and the drivers actually seem eager (usually- there was one exception) to take you wherever you need to go- not just to the airport. There's a very respectable breakfast buffet with surprisingly delicious made-to-order omelettes, and the waiter brought my coffee before I had finished sitting down- a nice touch first thing in the morning! Overall, I was a bit disappointed when I first arrived at the Crowne Plaza, but I just might stay here again next time I pass through Austin.

Description:

Close to Highland Mall, at the crossroads of Interstate 35 and Highway 290, this central Crowne Plaza hotel offers easy access to the city's best attractions (including downtown and the State Capitol) and top businesses, like IMB, Dell and Applied Materials. A free shuttle makes it easy to get in and out of Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and a complimentary breakfast buffet at the onsite Crossroads Grille (also open for lunch and dinner) is diverse and accessible for business travelers.
