I'll admit I was extremely underwhelmed when I first visited this hotel. Compared to the others in the area, this felt like a low budget alternative in a sea of high-end resorts. But as I moved around it seemed to have its perks. Though the lobby leaves a lot to be desired, the lounge in the back was distinctly energizing. It looked like the Voyager probe was mounted in the ceiling, and it practically begged to be filled with partygoers and other nightlife lovers. I have been to a couple parties when that place was packed and it was everything you'd want from a big city nightclub.
The hotel itself was a bit of a mystery. The high level of security made it impossible to even visit the floors with rooms, which I think is a great advantage for people who want to feel safe. There's a parking garage in the middle of the building, with surprisingly unprotected windows seven and eight stories above the ground. The meeting rooms were plentiful, and they were clearly aimed at a purely business class. Nothing too fancy in here, which means it's probably more than affordable.
But even with all of apparent issues with this hotel, it seemed solid and reliable. And more importantly, it sits right in the heart of downtown. There are half a dozen famous and important places within walking distance, even for people who don't like to walk. My hope is that someone will decide to make it sexier, but until then I'll stick with the affordable nature of it.

When it comes to prime business district location, the Crowne Plaza is heavy hitter. Walking distance from the JFK Memorial, Dealey Plaza, the Red Courthouse and the Bank of America Tower, all of Downtown is virtually at your doorstep. The look is modern and well-put together, although there was a very faint septic smell in the lobby. From the front desk, the lights of Thrive Restaurant and Nightclub danced in the distance. During the day Thrive is a chic dining spot but at night, it’s a full-on party, often with go-go girls. The hallways were a little dark and the guestroom smelled of stale smoke. Still, a surprising feature was the picturesque 9th floor outdoor pool oasis. It was a saving factor for a hotel experience that seems to be half-way through renovations.
