The Crowne Plaza is not horribly expensive and it's in a really good location for transportation. It's right by Raja Chulan monorail station and The Twin Towers are within walking distance. However, it does feel like a not so opulent hotel occupying a formerly opulent hotel's physical building, which I believe it might be.
The dated gym depressed me. I just don't feel encouraged looking at my reflection in that light.
And I'm trying to move on, but I was charged $6.50 U.S. for a watermelon juice that I routinely get on the street for less than a $.50 U.S. And I didn't want juice--I just wanted to check my e-mail, and in order to get the password, I was told I had to order the $6.50 juice.
But the area does have good food hawkers and street side restaurants at night, and the hotel is close to the food court of the Pavilion mall, so you're not forced to drink the overpriced juice. You have an incredible amount of "only in Kuala Lumpur" kind of food choices in the area.
I was here during Ramadan, and at 7:20 at night all the big hotels have buffets for the Muslim guests to break their fast at all month, and that's a great chance to see what kind of spread of Malaysian foods and deserts a hotel is capable of. The Crowne Plaza is capable of a spread, but there are a few funky touches to it. The rooms also had some dated, funky touches. One non-smoking room we saw smelled smokey. And the worker showing us around talked about the central air conditioning system as if that might just be how things are. If someone happens to smoke in another room on the same floor it's possible your non-smoking room might smell like smoke.

It looks like a very old typical luxurious hotel. The lobby is huge with very warm welcoming staffs who work there. It has an 80’s look like pub inside. The setting of the dining area is like a food court at a cheap place with dim lighting. Although they have the kitchen in the middle to make the place look a bit classier but that really doesn’t match well as the people crowding the place is made to walk past each other in the narrow walk way. The swimming pool is located right outside of the dining area which I think is not a very smart idea as people will be in their swim wear or on a robe walking in and out of the dining area. There might be another passage to the swimming pool which I might not be aware of. The gymnasium is located at a faraway distant place where you need to walk up 4 flights of steps and past the walkway which is quite eerie at night. They also have a small herb garden in front of the walkway near an abandoned shop just at the side of the gymnasium. The rooms have a nice view facing the city monorail station and also the scent from the central air conditioning of bad smokers in other rooms. I also think that their room service must have been really busy to actually do a proper room service job because I see the beds are not serviced properly with the bed sheets in a mess but the bathroom is clean. I also imagine that the people who actually stays here might have a very difficult time walking out of the hotel and going around by foot because to go to the hotel lobby you need to walk around 100 meters and 2 flight of stairs to reach the lobby entrance.
