Nice and clean hotel located near the Portland Convention Center. The hotel offers a free shuttle ride to and from the airport. You just need to call concierge to arrange it. I called them as soon as my flight landed in the evening and the shuttle arrived in about 15-20 minutes. Nice experience so far here.

Hand-Eye Supply is located in Chinatown, and is an easy walk from the Portland Saturday Market, Voodoo Donuts, and other Downtown locations. This business originally caught me attention as part of an online product spotlight, and confirmed it when I had a chance to stop by during a recent weekend in Portland. Hand-Eye Supply's shtick is curated hardware. It's kind ...

The 1940s vintage White Stag sign features a an exterior neon outline of the State of Oregon, the glowing letters of Portland Oregon inside and "Rudolph" (whose red nose shines bright during the Holidays) on top. Anyone who has come to Portland hasn't really visited the Rose City unless they have seen this Old Town sign.Popular withLocalSpiritualHistory

My Son and walked over the Oregon Holocaust Memorial from the Rose Garden and I'm glad we did. It was a little hard to find, but it's relative isolation only enhanced the spiritual tranquility that we both experienced. We first walked up to the stone bench with wrought iron gating around a cobblestone circle. We noticed various bronze discarded common ...Popular withSpiritualHistoryLocal

It's hard to visit Portland without walking past or visiting a Powell's Books. And I often find myself visiting this Concourse C Powell's on both ends of my PDX flights. The bookstore is surprisingly spacious and features a nice selection of new and used books, journals, travel essentials, gifts, and of course a good selection of Portland's own Queen Bee ...

The First Regiment Armory Annex, commonly known as the Portland Armory, was built in 1891 by Multnomah County to house the Oregon National Guard. While soldiers mustered at the Armory in 1898 for the Spanish American War, no urban unrest has ever been quelled here. In 1968, after years as an event space, it became a beer warehouse, owned by ...

Another great Portland happy hour to check out! This place is right at a MAX stop for the green and yellow lines in the Chinatown area. They had a rather unique happy hour menu with options like duck wings and cauliflower tempura both of which I would recommend!Popular withTrendstersLocalFoodies

Some might think that the Eastbank Esplanade is the poor sister to it's Willamette-side sister across the river. Others might not even know it's here to be enjoyed. And when you throw in a Steel and Hawthorne Bridge crossing, this is one fine loop to people watch, admire local arts, watch cherry trees in seasonal bloom, enjoy the views, and ...Popular withBackpackers

I never tried Muay Thai kickboxing before, and I thought it was really fun and enjoyable. It's a solid workout as well. The instructor was effective and reassuring in making me comfortable throw swings and punches. There are definitely more kicks and swings in Muay Thai, but the instructor was helpful in guiding me along with the other participants.Popular withLocal

I had just finished exploring the North Mississippi area and decided to dip down towards the river and over towards the SE. Just on the other side of the Widmer Brothers Brewery, I encountered one of those cool Portland business blocks that merited further exploration. Lowell Portland looked interesting, so I stopped in an wandered around. This version of curated ...

The nice shopkeeper at nearby Lowell recommended that I take a look at Beam & Anchor before moving on too far out of the neighbourhood. All I had to do was remember to turn right at Widmer and not Left. After I turned around, I found Beam & Anchor sitting by its lonesome and not sure what may be contained ...

This is Justin Machus's second Brick & Mortar Store. My first experience with his retailing skills was Local35 (on SE Hawthorne) which opened in 2003 and closed in 2011 after a successful 8 year run. So maybe this is the next step in this particular retailer's evolution. The current Machus was founded with a focus of bringing modern yet classic ...

Do you know those black or camo green burlap shoulder bags with the Israeli Air Force symbol on the side or maybe they have the cross of a medical officer. Poler Outdoor Stuff has now taken over the Blackbox space formally occupied by Dunderdon. I was wandering around the Portland Saturday Market and decided to waddle over to the Duck Store. Compared to its doppelganger in Eugene, this Duck Store is just OK. Of course, I'm not an Alum and hence the yellow/green branded stuff doesn't make me palpitate. Near the historic White Stag sign is the White Stag Block and the home of the University of Oregon at Portland. This complex merges parts of 3 historic buildings: the Bickel Block, the Skidmore Block, and the White Stag and Hirsch-Weiss. There's a lot of history within, around, and underneath. I recently wandered around (and hung out) at this lovingly ...Popular withHistoryLocalStudents
