One of the friendliest of the Convention Center area hotels, the Crowne Plaza is an affordable, well-maintained option that was renovated a couple of years ago. This large hotel has got all the standard features of a business hotel (restaurant, pool, fitness room, business center, free Wi-Fi, etc.). The rooms here are spacious and come equipped with capsule-style tea and coffee machines. The Crowne Plaza also has bicycles that guests can use free of charge, excellent if you want to blend in with Portland’s bike-loving masses. On rainy days (of which there are many), note that the hotel is just a few minutes’ walk from Portland’s Max light rail system (free between the hotel and downtown). There’s also plenty of parking on site.Recommended for:

The Crowne Plaza Hotel was a pleasant surprise. I played Hotwire roulette (at I think the 2.5 Stars level) and got a very nice room for $72.31 (including fees). The room was clean and comfortable and with nice staff at the desk. It's also only about a 3 block walk the light rail and an easy connection into downtown and later out to Cascade Station (laptop shopping).
The Crowne Plaza is really here because of the nearby Convention Center. However, if you're looking to walk out of your hotel and venture out into interesting Portland neighbourhoods, with the many coffee shops, pubs, interesting art, etc., there are better accommodation choices. The next time I'm town, I'm thinking either the Ace Hotel or maybe even the Kennedy School.

This is a big inner city hotel in NE Portland close to the Convention Center and located just off the main North East side river thoroughfare. Despite its size it has a very warm atmosphere in an old fashioned way without giving away any of the modern conveniences and appointments demanded by today's sophisticated traveler.
The reception area staff were warm and professional, and went out of their way to make my visit comfortable. I noticed a sense of pride from them about the hotel and it was certainly expressed in the cleanliness of the hotel in general and in the room.
The room was immaculate with a subtle modern decor that was warm, comfortable, and that clearly indicated to me that a lot of care and planning has gone in to make a guest's stay as perfect as possible.
