I loved driving to, and then through Custer State Park. You drive through amazing lush green mountains, so much beauty nearby. When you arrive, there are plains and if you're lucky enough as we were, you will see bison among other animals grazing. We has lunch at the park in a big wooden cabin structure and it was really nice ...

    Custer Country Market

0.1 mi from Custer State Park

Custer is the best town near Custer State Park to resupply for your camping trip. Custer Country Market is noteworthy because it sells the exotic meats of the region: buffalo and elk. You can also buy local beef jerky. Sturgis beef jerky is good but a bit too salty for my taste.

One of my favorite childhood memories! The mountain is such a work of art and it's such a neat place to experience American history. The area is beautiful to drive-through and there is a great gift shop and museum. Around this area there are great placed to visit, camp, enjoy nature, and soak up some history.

I visited the Rushmore Cave before a trip to Mount Rushmore. Although there's some amusement park stuff there, I only did the cave tour, which I found amazing.
