If you're on a short trip you want to be near LAX, Custom is going to be the only "boutique" hotel in sight. The fake sheep in the lounge may be a little much, but this hotel is on the quirkier/trendier side of things. The rooms are pretty basic, but worth the price. (Speaking of price, rooms start at about $59/night.) Try the attached bar/restaurant and definitely don't skip the pool.

This fun boutique hotel is part of the Joie de Vivre Hospitality family and it provides a unique experience for travelers going through LAX. Oftentimes, as you're landing, you'll see it not far off from the landing strip. It's a big black building and very modern. I love the scale they have at the front desk, so you can ensure your luggage is within limits. On one side, you get views of LAX and the general area, including some parks. It's fun to watch the planes come in.
They have valet parking, but there is ample free street parking in the neighborhood, if you don't mind a walk. Right next door is a Ralph's grocery store and nearby are a bunch of restaurants, so you can satisfy just about any food craving. The beds are low on the ground, which is an interesting change that I enjoyed. There was this random glowing light tube that changed color... not sure what that was for - a nightlight, maybe?

A trendy hotel close to LAX with a nice pool and lounge area. The rooms are pretty basic and the bathrooms are small, but for travelers looking for a place to stay overnight between flights or even a day at the, it's a great choice.

This is a great hotel next to the LAX airport (but not too close). This boutique, owned and operated by Joie de Vivre has some interesting amenities on each floor, including an art display by the nearby Otis College, as well as a relaxation room with a massaging chair and a game room. The food at the attached restaurant and bar was very good, and the drinks were excellent. Valet parking only, and very affordable.

Not a bad place to stay. Close to the airport, and has a very hip vibe to it. The rooms are nothing to die for, but they do the job, and the rooms are what you expect from a trendy boutique hotel.
The room also features a fun LED light at your window that you can play with--it can be seen from over a mile away when looking at the hotel

This Euro-modern hotel would likely fit better in Germany than it does in LA. The moderately-priced standard “deluxe double” rooms feel like bachelor apartments (minus the kitchen) outfitted from Ikea, with abnormally low futon-esque beds and an exposed rod installed as the closet. They also lack some of the standard features I’ve come to expect--like dressers, desks, chairs, and coffeemakers. Instead, I found odd wall-to-wall-to-wall curtains. Upgrade to the queen, or king room, and there’s a bit more comfort there, though the rooms are still pretty small. The hotel offers some unique extras, including a luggage scale in the lobby (a reminder that LAX is only 2.5 miles away), a gaming lounge with Wiis on loan, a business center, complimentary wifi, and free airport shuttle service. One unique feature I loved is that you can call for your car from anywhere by sending a text to the valet.

Not your daddy’s airport hotel—more like your granddaddy’s—if his name is Don Draper, aka the suave lead character on AMC’s Mad Men. They are definitely going for a hip mid-60s vibe here. And I’ve got to give them credit, they’ve done a really nice job transforming the place into a boutique-style hotel. I wouldn’t recommend it if your trip is focused on Hollywood, Downtown or the Sunset Strip, but the proximity to places like the South Bay and the Westside is good. LAX is about 10 minutes away.
Rooms are small but stylish—try to get one on a higher floor for a better view. Check out the “transonic gaming lounge,” where you can rent equipment like an Xbox or a Wii—a deposit is required, but it’s refundable, provided there’s no damage. Deck 33 serves decent drinks; pass on the food. A complimentary shuttle to LAX runs every half hour.
