I visited Dahab a few years ago and it is quite touristy and gets busier with travelers every year. However, with the current events in Egypt, I'm not sure how crowded it is. The snorkeling and diving here in the Red Sea is excellent.

Dahab is magical. Not as flashy as the nicer parts of Sharm El Sheikh but this is the place to chill out seaside while sitting on a carpet and enjoying a shisha or coffee. Very relaxed and intentionally Bohemian. Drugs are available here but you are strongly encouraged to avoid them or you put yourself at great risk.
A nice based for exploring Mt. Sinai and St. Catherine's Monastery. The diving / snorkeling here are exceptional and the views of Saudi across the water only heighten the sense of adventure that you feel here.

We came here to escape the crazy tourist area of Luxor, and really enjoyed it. Nice beaches with great snorkeling. The beach front has many restaurants to choose from, all with great fresh fish. But what we really enjoyed was the laid back atmosphere, we had only planed on spending 2 days, but it turned into 5.

Dahab is so relaxing, I would definitely return! The boardwalk is where I spent most my time, there are plenty of delicious restaurants all right along the Red Sea and lots of little shops to stroll around and buy stuff from. Also there are quite a few Adventure companies offering limitless excursions and those were quite fun as well!

Dahab is an amazing dive spot and a very laid back town. Not nearly as glitzy as Sharm el Sheik, but very relaxed and friendly. If you are into diving, the dive shops here are very good - I got my advanced certification and all the dive masters were Aussies. Definitely ask to dive the blue hole - it is unforgettable.

Dahab is pretty nice, and there's a variety of places to stay and eat, but for me it's kind of a compromise: if you want to go upscale, you'd do much better at Sharm El Sheik or Taba; if you want to just get away from it all on a deserted beach, there are smaller places where that's more easily done. Still, i like the place cuz it's laid back and easy. haven't been for too long...
