An absolutely beautiful, mirror-flat body of water that loses a star simply for all the hassle from shady shikara boatmen, who are as obnoxious as touts anywhere in India. A ride at sunset, or at dawn, with the mountains looming high above, though, is an amazing experience.

Just Beautiful. There is not more to say about Dal Lake other than it is gorgeous. If you are the kind of person who is patient and don't mind having to wait for a boat taxi (Shikara) to get to land then get a house bout. If are you not that kind of person, by all means do not get a house boat.
Dal Lake has amazing photo opportunities with markets on the lake on early mornings and amazing views of Srinagar all around it. Try to talk to the locals as much as possible. The shikara drivers have a lot to tell you about their lives.

Srinagar is the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir and Dal Lake is the Jewel of Srinagar. Staying in the traditional houseboat parked along the bank of Dal Lake is an experience in itself. To tour around the lake, there is a certain serenity indescribable by words when taking a sunset cruise in one of the colourful shikaras oared by a local. It is absolutely peaceful and beautiful.
