This is one of the best places to go with my kids. Also once you get the Anuall Pass, this helps you get upto 50% discount at ther places in Dallas. Definitely recommended if you are a famliy person with small kids.Recommended for:

It's not one of those world class zoos, even though the recently opened big mammal area is definitely worth a looking at. Good to spend a weekend afternoon, not something to write home about.

The food is horrible and overpriced! Save yourself money and pack a lunch! It is all frozen, tasteless greasy fried food. FYI , for those who like beer they sell local Deep Ellum draft or canned at the BBQ Shack in the patio next to Serengetti Grill. ( in the Wilds of Africa exhibition ) The zoo is ok. Nothing special. The only thing worth seeing is the Wilds of Africa where the lions, giraffes, zebras and elephants are. The rest of the zoo is rather boring and basic. Great for small children I guess.Recommended for:

With a train station right at the zoo, this is a wonderful place to spend with family and friends. Visit their web site for acceptable items to bring, prices and best times to visit. Do bring a camera with plenty memory as there is a lot to see and do! And always remember to not feed the animals unless posted.Recommended for:

The Dallas Zoo does not have the same breadth as the zoological neighbor in Ft. Worth, but there are plenty of things to see and do at the zoo. Since the zoo has been around for so long many of the trees are quite large and offer lots of shade during the warmer months. Some of the older exhibits are showing their age, but recent improvements to other enclosures provide a more natural environment for the animals.
The Wilds of Africa is one of the more recent sections of the zoo that provides more space to observe the animals in an open environment.

Well it would seem that every major city added a zoo many years ago to generate tourism dollars in their city. The Dallas Zoo is you typical city zoo. That said, it's actually very sad. There's been a growing controversy about the treatment of their elephants. Specifically an elephant named Jenny. Her cause has even drawn out, comedian and animal rights activist, Lily Tomlin.
