This was another one of my favorite hotels (I'm starting with all of my favorites) pre-kids. The lobby was dripping with history (quite literally, as it flooded every day that we were there--a fact that the staff treated like the everyday event that it was--they just rolled up the carpets, stacked the furniture, and put up planks to walk on), and the rooms were fantastic. Comfortable beds, lots of room (for Europe), beautiful old bathrooms. We stayed on points (as is usually the case with Starwood Hotels), and somehow got a canal view room across from San Giorgio Maggiore. One of the best views I've ever had.Recommended for:

My grandparents adored the Danieli and this is the hotel they always stayed at when they visited Venice and this hotel has only improved over the years, combining traditional Venetian design with modern efficiency and comfort. Located just off the Piazza San Marco, the Danieli is right in the heart of the action, but the crowds outside do not detract from the remarkably serene atmosphere guests will find inside the hotel.

I came upon Hotel Danelii by boat at night... It seemed so quiet and mysterious. A scene out of s movie they way your dream about arriving the great city of Venice. At first it seemed too contained to be such a grand hotel. However, I realized the door was set into the beautiful stained glass wall, so I rang the bell and the maitre'd hotel answered the door, signed me in, and showed me to my room. We walked through the marble lobby and down a quiet hall. When the thick wood door of my room was open I saw everything was ornate.... red velvet curtains and a beautiful brocade bedspread! I remember that they had every comfort in the room. The light switches were refined copper and lit the room in a variety of beautiful choices. When I awake in the morn I had breakfast on the terrace overlooking the canals... bella! When I went downstairs to walk around the corner to St Marcos I was completely surprised by how busy the street was just outside the hotel, after being so quiet by night. Hotel Danieli is in a very central location surrounded by some of the greatest art this world has ever known. After taking in Museums I came back and had tea beneath beautiful Murano chandeliers in the lobby... All the staff was helpful and discreet! Truly an experience!Recommended for:
