Very luxurious and lovely hotel on the edge of the Indian Ocean. Great spot to stay in if you have a flight leaving out of Dar es Salaam, or perhaps on your way to Zanzibar and you want a stop over. Huge beds, great food, and a wonderful beach atmosphere. Wouldn't hesitate for one second to stay here again!

Aside from the neighborhood and the lack of activities around it, Alexander's is arguably the best place to stay in Dar. It's a boutique hotel that has full service offerings: great food, a rooftop bar, and a swimming pool. The rooms are spotless, the staff superb (the gate guards are Masai warriors!), and the owner always jovial and friendly. Alexander ...

An excellent location, overlooking the bay, with sea breezes blowing through the restaurant at sunset. They are open for lunch, but just serve the food from the next-door cafe, so it is really a dinner spot. For dinner it is an excellent option with fresh seafood, meats and pastas to choose from. A great place for a meal.

Excellent for transit travelers cause it is very close to the airport, clean and very quite. They organise transfers with airport taxis - very efficient. Not good for a longer stay

This place is very cool. Situated right on a sandy beach with views of the peninsula and Bagamoyo island. There are a number of sandy lounge areas to relax, a very cool bar constructed from old dhows, and including fish tanks in the actual bar. Further, they have a delicious seafood pizza and friendly service.

Mikadi Beach is a great place for backpackers or anyone looking for a lively and spirited night time social scene and a chill place to hang out during the day. The owners, Jo and Lucho are friendly, helpful, and often there on the property. The food at the bar is great. While Mikadi itself is safe (not counting the occasional ...

    Q-Bar & Guest House

A popular bar Thursday through Saturday, and a decent little sports bar with outdoor seating during the week. They also have a reasonably priced guest house, with apartment style, spacious, sunny rooms. The bar does have a bit of a bad reputation for working girls, but that seemed more like par for the course in the area.

Well, it is on the beach, but it is not much of a beach and there is nothing else really around. The food is fine, and the rooms are livable, but it the place just feels weirdly still under construction. The staff is friendly, but there is only wifi in the lobby, and so not much to do in the ...

We stopped here for a night before starting an overland tour. There was a small snafu with the rooms because I had booked through my tour company (mistake!) and the hotel couldn't do much because they were fully booked. Also we were having difficulty dealing with the heat and we went apoplectic when we accidentally turned off the A/C and ...

A solid mid-range option for a business traveler, or a tourist, trying to avoid the traffic of downtown. Located on the peninsula, right on the water, there is a tastefully designed pool, and a shopping center, bank and handful on restaurants right on site for your convenience. The beds are comfortable, and the rooms are nice, but you will have ...

This is a good value spot. Double confirm your reservations, and expect slow but adequate service. The rooms are actually very nice. The ones facing outwards with views are ten times nicer than the ones inside with windows facing a wall. Make a request. The included breakfast is a bit weird (potatoes and liver), but you can order eggs, and ...

Well, you get what you pay for, and for budget travelers, the HI is just fine. Very centrally located - and no, it doesn't have much flair or anything special about it, but the money you save can have you scuba diving in Zanzibar, which is a short boat ride away!
