Davenport is beautiful and wild.
Walk along the bluffs overlooking the ocean and you will more likely than not see migrating whales spouting. If you descend to the beaches bring some layers as it gets cold anytime, and dont forget to pack your trash out. Be very careful swimming here, the water is treacherous as well as very cold. The Waddel Creek area which is popular with some surfers is also statistically overrepresented in shark attacks, relative to just about anywhere in the US. Look it up.
Parking is all but impossible after 10pm due to regulation designed to keep people from exceeding the beach hours, and rest assured that at 10:01pm your car will have a hefty ticket on its windshield, no matter how remote the place seems. They occasionally patrol the beach as well, but usually settle for just ticketing anyone who is still parked there at night.
There are a lot of farms and ag around, especially pumpkin patches, and is a fun excursion to get one in the fall. There are also fruit and berry farms where you pick them yourself.
There are some great bike paths along the ocean side of highway 1 from Santa Cruz, and the return to town is usually downwind!
Rumor has it that there is a _secret_ tunnel in the cliff face that leads to the Odwalla juice factory.
