Very touristy. Don't ever expect to have the trail to yourself. Costs $1 to walk in and $5 for a car to park there. During peak times, you'll be waiting in the full lot for a space to park.
Overall, its a relatively easy hike with decent views and a couple of scenic points up along the way. I see Japanese girls in wedge heels hike this trail.

From the bottom it might not look like much of a climb but don't be fooled, it's steeper than it looks! Towards the end, especially when you see some of those final flights of stairs you might think your not going to make it. But when you come out on the top and look out at the view the effort is well worth it! They even have a guy at the top with certificate you can purchase as proof you made it all the way to the top.

A pretty easy hike, from the reviews I thought it would have been harder than it was.. but before I knew it, the hike was over.
Lucky for me, I got here early in the morning around 8 or 9 so there weren't too many people here yet. It was nice and cool hiking up to the top of Diamond head. Sure there were stairs, but it was pretty easy going up it.
The view from the top is nice, and along the way there are small lookout points you can head off to in order to take more pictures.
There is parking here, but you pay $5 per car. I would probably hike Diamond Head again if I were in Hawaii.

It's a bit of a walk to the top of diamond head from the monument but its a great adventure and the views are so worth it! There are stairs and tunnels and it's a great work out. Make sure you take a camera to get some stunning panoramic pictures when you get to the lookout.

Best time to walk to the top of Diamond Head is early morning while morning air is cool. The reward for making it up a 100 steps is the panoramic view of Ocean, Waikiki, and surrounding areas.

Fantastic views reward the hiker who makes it up the mountain and through the long rock tunnel to the top of Oahu's Diamond Head. It's a fun hike, and really worth the effort.

besides Waikiki Beach, this is the next famous landmark on Oahu, a tour guide told me. one of my favorite things to do is to go to KCC farmers' market on Sat morning, grab some snacks and drinks, and take a hike up Diamond Head trail. kill 2 birds with one stone, well, no killing of any sort, but you'll enjoy what Oahu has to offer, great community setting, local fresh food, nice hike, and gorgeous view of the coast.
