I dream about the dumplings at Din Tai Fung - they are so good! I have been to several different locations, for both lunch and dinner, and never been disappointed in the food. Generally the service is also top notch. But it's the food you come for. Even my kids like it and they are notoriously poor eaters. I've brought out-of-town guests too and they have all loved it. Well worth trying. I know I'll be back again, and again, and again.Recommended for:Family Travelers

Xiaolongbao, the only reason to go here, are fantastic soup-filled dumplings. They are magnificent here, as they are at DinTaiFung outlets in Hong Kong (that outlet is actually Michelin starred), Tokyo, Los Angeles and Taiwan (where the chain originated). The wait is long and the menu isn't as varied as Crystal Jade (a competing chain in Shanghai, specifically, and throughout the rest of Asia), but the Xiaolongbao are better, and that's why you go to DinTaiFung. If you've got a lot of people with varied tastes, goto Crystal Jade; it's in the same complex. Still, for inexpensive and hearty authentic Chinese food in a very clean (if somewhat corporate) setting, and especially for those oh-so-delicious dumplings, DinTaiFeng cant be beat. It ranks with So Cal's Tommy's as one of my All-Time-Favorite cheap-eats chains!

15/20; Food 8/10, Ambience 3/5, Service 4/5. Chain of several dim-sum-focused restaurants. Both the Grand Gateway branch (5F, Grand Gateway No.1 Hongqiao Rd) and the Xintiandi branch (2F, House 6, South Block Xintiandi, Lane 123, Xinye Rd) were comfortable, well-lit and presented spaces with curteous and attentive (English-speaking) staff. Straightforward dumplings, szechuan and other standard fare. Recommended for a simple meal whilst exploring.

Shanghai Xiao Lung Bao (soup buns) at its best. A popular chain with outlets all over (i.e. HKG, SFO, LAX, TPE), there is a valid reason for its popularity. Consistently good food, friendly service, clean environment makes for successful chain of a specialty cuisine

Din tai fung is a Taiwanese chain restaurant that has outlets and fans all over the world. I'm one of them! Very yummy soup dumplings. In other cities like Sydney and Singapore, the wait for a table can be long but we never had to wait here. Score.
