Nestled in the heart of Magnolia, the bluffs of Discovery Park overlook Puget Sound and its sweeping views of the Olympic Mountains. Hike the easy 3 mile hill hoop or breakaway to the tidal beach, open meadows, running trails, sea cliffs, forest groves, or sand dunes. Don't miss the Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center for Native American history, arts and crafts.

There's a short loop and a long loop. The long loop takes you down to the lighthouse. You can also bike but be prepared for the big hill back up from the beach(:O

The park includes two miles of tidal beaches, a lighthouse, miles of walking trails, Indian Cultural Center, Fort Lawton, open meadow lands, dramatic sea cliffs, forest groves, active sand dunes and streams.

You need to have a car to get to the meaningful trails otherwise it will take a significant amount of time to walk from the beginning of the park.

Discovery Park is a good place for a jog or walk. There are also large fields good for throwing a Frisbee around.

Discovery Park is a little out of the way, but it is gorgeous! You can find your way there by bus and then walk around the enormous greenery that seems to go on forever.

Good place, even worth a 3-hour walk if you don't own a vehicle. It's beautiful down there at the beach with the lighthouse, especially during sunset.

Description

The cold and rocky beach of Discovery Park might not seem inviting to visitors, however it’s for the trails and views that they come to this area of Puget Sound for. The 534-acre park in Seattle is the city’s largest, offering approximately 12 miles of hiking trails. The West Point Lighthouse, noted in the National Register of Historic Places, is a popular attraction, though perhaps not as popular ... read more
as the California sea lions visible within the harbor. Nature-lovers should take note of the numerous plants native to the park, from the coniferous forest to the beautiful Douglas-firs.
