This was once a 5 star resort to me, but our last visit was awful! First, upon booking we were not told there was construction in the hotel. If I had known, I would have gladly paid more for a different area or just stayed in another hotel! My son has asthma and the paint fumes made him sick. We were told we couldn't change rooms (even after we told them we would upgrade to "Preferred" or water view. I understand if the hotel is filled, but we didn't get even an "I'm sorry this happened."
We tried to make the most of our day, hoping the fumes and dust would be better at night (with no workers). It wasn't. As soon as I could, I went downstairs to check out. Suddenly there was a room available. I guess everything was resolved (one sleepless night and 3 asthma attacks later)
But all that aside, the room was dirty, wires to lighting exposed, the casing for the can light inside to room in the doorway coming out of the ceiling? For $500/ night? Save the money and stay offsite at a far nicer resort.

Love the Boardwalk area resorts mainly because of their proximity to Epcot. As Susan mentioned, exiting (and entering) Epcot via the "back way," as my kids call it, almost makes us feel like VIPs because few people know about it. It's a cinch.
Our favorite feature of this resort is the pool area. Kids of all ages love the beachy feel of the pool, especially the sandy bottom (myself included).
Rooms are nice, but I prefer the Yacht Club rooms strictly because of their decor. Regardless, you can't go wrong with Beach Club!Recommended for:

This resort is amazing. I grew up on an east coast beach. So I am very picky about anything beach related. This resort (while in Orlando) truly makes you feel as though you are on the coast! The pool is unlike any I have ever seen. An enormous winding sand bottomed river with slides and waterfalls all over. The restaurants are some of the best on property. You can walk to Epcot or disney's Hollywood studios too! A little pricey, but worth it.

The Yacht Club resort, as well as it's attached sister hotel, The Beach Club are my favorite resorts at Walt Disney World Resort. They deserve top ranking because of the resort location, swimming pool, restaurant offerings, and activity offerings. The resort is just outside of EPCOT's International Gateway, the "back" entrance to EPCOT. There's nothing like heading toward the International Gateway to leave EPCOT at the end of the night while everyone else is heading toward the entrance. It's a pleasant park departure experience you rarely receive at the parks. You can either walk or take a short boat ride to EPCOT or Disney's Hollywood Studios. It is also a short walk to The Boardwalk, Swan or Dolphin hotels if you care to check out their restaurant offerings or shops. Stormalong Bay, the swimming pool, is unique for Disney. It has a sand bottom, temperate water, a long slide reminiscent of a shipwreck, a small lazy river, shallow pool for the very young, hot tubs and waterfalls. There is also a small playground at the main pool. If you plan on having a good amount of pool time, this is the place! They have afternoon activities too such as trivia contests or volleyball. Beware though, it is difficult to find a chair or table at the pool during pool season. The restaurants are fantastic. You have options of a steak dinner, variety fare, seafood buffet, hamburgers or quick sandwiches from one of the stores. If there happens to be bad weather, activities are typically offered in the resort lobby or the solarium and there is mini golf just a very short ride away. The rooms are very comfortable too after having gone through redecorating and replacement of the beds. The beds are quite comfortable. You will also receive complimentary H2O products in the rooms.
The information above is my review for The Yacht and Beach Club resorts so I will now add on information specific to the Villas which are considered a separate property but sharing the same amenities.
The Villas also have their own quiet pool and hot tub which is convenient if you just want to spend a little time near some water without the trouble of trying to find a chair at Stormalong Bay. It is a very short, covered walk from the Villas over to the resort. The nearest entryway to the resort the Beach Club Solarium or the gift shop where you can pick up prepared food, snacks, gifts, drinks, etc.
