I stayed at the Port Orleans with 3 of my friends on our senior trip after high school graduation. It was an affordable hotel that was on the WDW complex. The hotel itself has a great atmosphere - decorated like a real New Orleans themed building, with Mardi Gras touches throughout. The staff was friendly and helpful and the location was an easy ride to and from the parks.

My family loved this moderate resort. We had a water-view room and visited when the magnolia trees were in bloom. Wonderful!
The food court was perfect and we preferred to dine there rather than the more-expensive restaurant.
The pool area wasn't as nice as other Disney resorts, but it was perfect for cooling-off after a long day in the parks.
Be sure to utilize the boat ride to Downtown Disney. It's very relaxing.

I absolutely loved this resort! It was very clean and the guest services were some of the best I have ever dealt with. They gave us an upgrade when they made a mistake! We were very pleased with our room. The theme was very cozy and cool and great for families. The view was great- all we had to do was walk outside or look out the window to see the water! It was picture-perfect and I would definitely go back!

The hotel is very beautiful, the river that runs behind composes a beautiful landscape.
Buildings where guests stay have a themed division: "mansions" and "cottages". The rooms have the standard size of Disney´s moderate category, not so big but very confortable and clean.
The only flaw is that some rooms get away from reception, as it is "villages", you need to walk to go to the lobby or even have breakfast.

I stayed that the Port Orleans Resort on one trip to Disneyworld (and I usually switch it up each time). There's a central lake and and a beach, along with a pool and hot tub. It's one of Disney's mid-range hotels, so it's a bit cheaper than the premium resorts.

Lovely grounds, A beautiful place to spend a few days. I have a family of five, so this was one of the only "moderate" options we had for lodging. We had a trundle bed. Worked out fine. This resort is really huge and particularly spread out. Tough on your feet after a long day in the parks.
I will say, renting a surrey bike as a family is one of my favorite memories. Nice way to see the place!

Hotel stars rating really doesn't matter when it comes to Disney resort. You will be in good hand no matter what.
I had a pleasant stay at Port Orleans Riverside. The room, while not exactly luxury, was clean and well kept. Linen and bedding was reasonably comfortable. Decent amount of counter space for the ladies. The bathroom is a bit small but other than that I have no complaint.
Transportation to and from any of the Disney parks was easy. There are frequent shuttles during park hours and the shuttle drivers are always courteous and friendly. Hollywood studio and Epcot are short rides away. Animal Kingdom is a bit further and you might fall asleep during the ride. Downtown Disney is accessible also through a lovely boat ride.
Transportation to and from the airport is another story. I do like the magical express. However, it wasn't exactly seamless. Shuttle wait time at the airport could be rather long. You can check in your luggage at the hotel (and pick it up at your final destination) but that would require you to arrange any required baggage fee beforehand. It would be nice if everything could be finalized at the time of booking so I don't have to make multiple phone calls.
Dinner options are rather limited. Your best bet is to take the shuttle to other resorts. The food court at Riverside is decent for breakfast and quick bites though.
