The grandeur of this place struck me as I walked in – elegant and cool, a welcome change from the sweltering heat without. Thankfully, it had a pool (outside) – hard to find in the Plaka area of Athens, much appreciated in the heat of Greek summer, and the poolside bar guaranteed a relaxing Mediterranean escape from the city streets. The room in the ‘Deluxe Wing’ was simple and decorated in classic comfort style, but the bed was too soft for me. The balcony looked out towards the Acropolis, which was only a couple blocks away, as was the Plaka shopping district. In the evening, the rooftop restaurant/bar is open with stunning views of the Acropolis. A full buffet breakfast is included, but you will have to pay for your internet. Be sure to check out the unique underground hotel museum with ancient sections of Thimistocles Wall.

With its location to Acropolis and the city centre, comfortable and luxurious rooms with affordable prices, Divani Palace is a hotel that I can highly recommend for visitors to Athens, especially for business purposes.

After walking through the Gold-colored neo-classical lobby towards the executive wing of the hotel, I find myself entering into a simplistic ‘modern’ mid-sized room that enjoys a view of the Filopapou monument making it pleasant to hang out on the balcony with some room service drinks. It’s located 3 blocks from the entrance to the old city Plaka that has many souvenir shops and food spots. Breakfast is basically eating in a conference sized room with a large selection of hot and cold Greek and American style foods and the kicker is the ‘Greek coffee’ station table all it’s own! Going up to the roof top restaurant, I’m confronted with a spectacular side view of the Acropolis. The bar near the lobby was easy to overlook once the large pool between building wings catches all my attention.

If finding a hotel in Athens is all Greek to you, make it easier by staying at the Divani Acropolis Palace hotel. We booked our trip to Greece through Friendly Planet travel, and this is the hotel they placed us in. The hotel is in a great location, about a ten minute or less walk to the base of the Acropolis and other nearby attractions. Our room was large, with both a sleeping area and separate sitting area, though it was not as new and modern looking as the accomodations pictured on the hotel's website. The lobby is large with ample seating areas and an abundance of marble. A lounge/bar is just off the lobby, and the hotel offers a high-quality complimentary breakfast buffet in the restaurant on the lower level. On our first night, we dined in the rooftop restaurant, which offers a charming setting with spectacular views of the Parthenon -- an excellent way to proclaim, "I've arrived in Athens!" There is a small but nice pool at the hotel, which provides an excellent way to escape the Athens heat. The concierge was very helpful and provided us with maps and restaurant recommendations. We had a great trip, and the Divani Palace was a big part of why!
