One of the only beaches in LA that allow's bonfires...arrive early as parking and the beach fill up quickly. One downside is that its right next to LAX so you'll get 747's and the like flying overhead every couple minutes.

Dockweiler State Beach is the only beach with bonfire pits in Los Angeles. Unfortunately it's located near the airport and other industrial sites, so it's not very nice and pretty dirty. However, if you want to have a bonfire and don't want to drive all the way to Huntington Beach in Orange County, then this is the place to go. During the summer, it gets really crowded, so even if it's not that appealing here, there's always great company. Make sure you come early to get a pit.

This is a great beach to have a picnic, play in the sand, or play in the ocean. There are even fire pits if you want to make some smores at night. It's not a huge beach, so it can get a little crowded with people during the summer, but it's fine if you're not looking to play sports on the sand. Parking is $10, but look for spots on the street for free but be careful walking down the slopes to the beach.

I visited Dockweiler State Beach this past weekend while participated in a 5K.
Dockweiler is one of the few beaches in Southern California which allow open bonfires. Parking is $10 or you can park on the street and just walk down.
I'd say the beach is great for BBQ's, bonfires, and sand activities (volleyball, football, frisbee, etc). However I personally wouldn't want to go in the water due to close proximity to water treatment plants and gas refineries.
It can also get a little loud are planes are constantly flying overhead. If you like planes this might actually be a plus for you!

Dockweiler is closest beach to the airport and almost feels like part of LAX as the planes seem to barely miss your head taking off into the sky. It really isn't a great beach, and I give my 3 stars because it is the only bonfire friendly beach. You must arrive a bit early to claim your bonfire, the beach will be lit up by sundown.

Been many years since I and my family was here and it was a camping trip to remember. Camping right on the beach and the sound of the waves at night & the walking distance to small cafe's and little shops was so much fun with bike and skate rentals. A time with my kids I will never forget!Recommended for:Family Travelers
