Domus Aurea

Via della Domus Aurea, Rome 00184 Italy
4.5
12 reviews

The Domus Aurea is an palace, built by emperor Nero. Altough it can only be visited with a guided tour, it's a must see in Rome. It's pretty impressing, how huge the area of the domus aurea was.

Absolute gem of a coffee shop. It's steps from the Fontana de Trevi, but not a tourist inside. Like being in a airy, cozy library. No photos allowed though!

The restaurant came highly recommended by the hotel staff and I'm very glad I listened. The calamari (pictured) was excellent, but it was the supplì that was to die for - deep-fried balls of risotto, egg and mozzarella heaven! Supplì is native to Rome and the surrounding Lazio region, I came to learn. Didn't try the wine, I know, criminal ...

    Gelateria La Dolce Vita

    Via Cavour 306
    0.5 mi from Domus Aurea

This gelateria was a shock. It is right by the Roman Forum on Via Cavour, so I expected it to be overpriced, touristy and lacking in quality - but it is entirely the opposite. This is my favorite gelateria in Rome when I'm looking to spend the average price for a cup of gelato, and I will often go through ...

This was a great choice made by my friend who is a local. It is located near the Forum but tucked away so you would only find it if you already know it exists. The service is impeccable and the wine selection, while not huge,is excellent. The real reason to go here though is the food! The appetizers are unique and ...

Grace C. and I walked to Angelino Ai Fori because we were looking for gelato. It's down the street from Flor, a place I had bookmarked but found it closed on the day we went. We found it here at a cafe stand. They also serve coffee here and you can opt for standing room service or sit down service ...

Da Michele is located two blocks away from the Fontana di Trevi, making it less crowded than the other pizzerie nearby. Their ingredients are listed on the menu board, and there are very few: flour, salt, water and a two others I can't remember. Bottom line: This pizza is classically made. While it isn't a perfectly refined slice, they certainly ...

The air-conditioned dining room and free Wi-Fi alone makes Restaurant Birreria Albrecht a worthy place to visit. The fact that they have beer makes it ever better. I stopped in when the restaurant was pretty much empty. I sat down, ordered a beer and made use of the wireless Internet. Another traveling couple came in, and they sat them right ...

This place is great. It was the perfect surprise to find to take my lady out on a date. Not the best pizza, but they serve a nice variety of slices and other items, and the workers seem to all be really sweet, old Italian ladies. They even understand a bit of English, and they are happy to help foreigners. The spot is large with both a bar area and seating space. Great place for a quick slice or ...

My family was so into this place when they visited me in Rome. Order one of the prix-fixe menus and feast on an Iron Chef like tribute to fish. Fish soup, lasagna, snails, grilled sardines, grilled whole fish, accompanied by delicious bread, decent salad, liter bottles of white wine, and lemon sorbet to finish, for around €30-35 euro a head. ...

I was pleasantly surprised with Shawarma Station. The food was tasty, the space is nice and there's entertainment playing on the television. It's a really comfortable place to grab a bite to eat with a group or solo. With lots of options, most notably the shawarmas, there's something for everybody. Prices are reasonable. Giolitti is one of the most famous gelato places in Rome. The decor inside is old world with wooden floors and cabinets and men dressed in black-and-white server attire. The gelatos taste very good and is definitely worth the trip.
